Hd Tv, question? Idea?

Ok, what if the cable box makers began using a system that was like the old channel 3, 4 conversion. By this I mean, why don't they just use coax cable to connect to the HD tv's digital tuner. example, tv would stay on channel 102-2 And then the stations could be tuned by the box.

This would make it easy to connect to a pc. All one would need is a digital tuner (ati, hauppauge, or hdhomerun) and we could hook up with easy hd content.

Now, Im not sure if this is already out there or not, but I think it is a very viable solution to a few problems.
1 - htpc can do hd
2 - component cables are bulky
3 - hdmi cables are expensive

Let me know what you think.

It'll never happen because they don't want to lose control of the content. It's considered "dangerous" to them to allow you unrestricted access, so they will restrict you to using HDMI with HDCP encryption for any premium HD content.

<soapbox>Copyright law has lost sight of it's original purpose, and is now an instrument used to preserve the monopolies of the existing big-name content producers. It's not going to change until we reform D.C. and stop corporations from buying legislation.

It's not a coicindence that every time Mickey Mouse is in danger of falling into the public domain the duration of a copyright is retroactively extended. It's particularly hypocritical in Disney's case considering how much of their business is built on re-packaging public domain material.</soapbox>

Dish did that a long time ago with the 6000 series and the 8VSB modulator, long since discontinued and I doubt it will ever come back.
