couple questions

I just got my 1600 tuner all setup and I've got a question i hope ya guys can help me out with. I've noticed the picture quality is very sub-par, I've got it running into the 1600 via composite, which i think may be the cause I'm just not sure. My stb is a sci atlanta 3250 and it has a firewire port, would it be worthwhile for me to try to set it up via that? I have the computer running to my tv via a dongle from my vid card, looks like a s-video to component female type thing, i tried running it straight to the tv with dvi but i get this odd wave effect on everything if i do. It looks a bit better on the pc but i think that really has to do with screen size or something, my tv is a 48in rear-projection 1080i.

i managed to get the video quality to look decent enough, now i cant seem to get any audio whatsoever. Ive got the optical cable running out of the STB into the opt-in on my soundcard and then another running from the opt-out to my AV receiver, nothing i do seems to work. thanks for some help.
