Rew & FF - different behavior for shows and DVDs?

I was wondering if the following is possible; given the 4 Sage commands, FF, FF2, REW, REW2, would it be possible to assign those commands different behavior depending on what you are watching. Here's what I'd like;

- when watching recorded shows or other media file, the +/- 10 sec or +/- 2min30 is great when using FF, REW, or FF2, REW2 commands
- when watching ripped DVDs however, I would love it if FF2/REW2 actually mapped to next/previous chapter (and potentially FF/REW to the 'real' x4 fast forward or rewind)

My remote doesn't "know" what I'm watching but surely SageTV does... right?

You could use Studio to modify how the commands work.

But, did you know that Channel up/down jumps by chapter when playing a DVD? Chapter 5 of the PDF manual lists all the SageTV commands, but chapter 4 has sections about playback for each media type & lists the main commands available for each one.

I knew that.

But it's not nearly as user friendly as the same commands adapting to the context, IMHO.

Andy, I havet looked at the manual, but havent found answer so I will ask this question anyway. mp4s created by Nero from DVDs have also chapters (not sure if this is standard or how they do it, but Nero Showtime allows you to jump to any chapters of the mp4 as if it was a DVD). Does Sage supports this?

I don't know anything about chapters in mp4 or other non-DVD files, so you should probably contact SageTV about that.

Agree, 10000%. As a new SageTV user, I've been frustrated by aspects of the UI. Every guest who has tried to navigate my SageTV has made the mistake of using the >>| and |<< buttons to skip chapters on DVD or skip tracks on a music playlist. Channel Up / Channel Down is just not as intuitive.

I do appreciate how customizable SageTV is, but the learning curve for Studio seems rather steep, especially if all I want to do is remap a few commands. IMO it's the "little things" like this that limit SageTV (and other media PC front-ends) from ever gaining mainstream acceptance.
