Happage 150 & 1600
Hi All,
I just intalled a 1600 in my machine where the 150 currently resides. So now I have both cards in there. problem 1. My remote quit working. the ir.exe is still running, so I'm pretty mush stumped. Problem 2. The video is choppy. Really Choppy. I am using the nvidia encoder that was suggested to me when I first hooked up Sage. I did alot of searching, but nothing came up. Any help is appreciated. |

A few questions your post didn't offer... 1. What OS are you using? 2. Did you 2a. Quit Sage and make sure the service was stopped, then... 2c. Use the (albeit crappy) Hauppauge WinTv app to see if the video problem shows up there? 3. If yes to #2, did you remove or disable the 1600 to see if the problem goes away? Don't mean to insult your intelligence, but a little troubleshooting 101 is in order to determine the culprit. EDIT: Also found these threads that might be of some use: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25132 http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29898

Thanks DOS, sorry for the lack of Info.
OP is Win XP No I have not used the crappy WinTV program to see if the problem existed there also. Here is some updated information. The Remote works now. I plugged it into the 1600 card, vs the 150 card which it was originally on, and it works just fine. So we can scratch that question. As for the 1600 card, the analog tuner works just fine. The digital tuner is the problem. That's the one that is not working properly. It skips and freezes. I have gone to windows and checked for hardware updates, there were none. Dos, I have found those two threads you posted before I posted this thread. They weren't much help to me. |

Try the WinTV app to see if you can dupe the problem there. It sounds like it might be a decoder issue. You might want to try using the MS utility DECCHECK. If you don't already have it, you can download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Run it to see if your NVidia decoder is the default, if not it'll let you designate it as such. Also, what does your CPU load look like when this is happening?

Also, make sure you checkout the Sage FAQ here:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1601 In particular the Playback Settings and Methods section.

And I take back what I said before. The Analog signal is now than before, and on some channels skipping and freezing, although not as bad as the HD did. I removed the capture sources I had set up for the 1600 and it still does it. Dos, With the 1600 and the 150 analog sources set up and recording, my processor does 80% With just the 1500 source, it's 40%. But the video still is crappier than it was before I added the other card. I'll look into the info you gave me. |

80% is way too high for CPU utilization. I'm running 2 analog recordings right now and CPU is only around 5%, and I'm only running an Athlon 3200 (not X2). I'm guessing that you've got something running in the background that is hogging resources. Check your processes and see what's chewing on your CPU.
If all else fails, try disabling the 1600 in device manager and see if the problem goes away. If so, then it may be a driver issue.

I'll take a look at it.
I recently switched this baord from an Athalon 3000+ to a P4 2.53Ghz. The Athalon would constantly overheat and shut the PC down. It was very unreliable. though, that board had problems before I obtained it. Last edited by cruizer; 03-28-2008 at 01:07 PM. |

Alright, I looked at the processes, and the only think eating my CPU is SageTV.
So I uninstalled all the card drivers, and got the newest drivers from Happauge, and installed them. Now it's worse. The system runs almost constantly at 100%, again, all SageTV. And the IR Blaster no longer loads. Also, perhaps I didn't mention, at least I can't find it in this thread, I am using an ATi Radeon 9600 Graphics card now. I had in there an old ATi Radeon 7500 AIW. I switched that out with the motherboard as well. But again, the problems I am having didn't start until I put in the 1600. |

Wow, you're not getting much HTPC lovin' right now, are ya?
OK. Let's back things up a little and take it one step at a time. 1. Backup your Sage install someplace safe and uninstall same. 2. Disable your 1600 in device manager (or remove it altogether). Leave your 150 installed. 3. Download Hauppauge's HCWCLEAR utility and run it to wipe everything Hauppauge off of the PC. 4. Reload the 150 drivers and the WinTv app and make sure the 150 is working properly. Note the CPU utilization while its recording. Remember, we want to eliminate all other causes before we bring the 1600 back in the mix. 5. If the 150 plays nice, then add the 1600. Load only the drivers. 6. Test the 1600 for capture, record and playback using WinTV. Check CPU utilization. Let us know how it goes.

Welp,
I uninstalled Sage, removed the cards, ran HCWClear, reinstalled the 150, installed WinTV, and my CPU usage still varies between 10-30%. *sigh* |

I added the other card, I reinstalled Sage ('cause I don't knowhow to get WinTV to record two programs at once) And I am currently recording 2 programs, both analog. It started out at 50-60%, and then after a minute dropped to 5-15%.
Oh. no. The programs ended. i set to record two other shows, and now is staying between 50-60%. I'm going to Ireland tomorrow. Post up your thoughts and I'll get back to it when I return. |

How did the two programs playback? More specifically, how did the 1600 do this time around?
