WHS tuners not working
I've got a new WHS SageTV install and I can't get either of my USB tuners to work.
ConvertX - PX-TV402U Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950 hybrid TV stick In SETUP, after I press TV Tuner, it shows "Loading Preview. Please wait." Then I get an error message such as: "There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-3,0x80004005): There was a problem accessing the filesystem for playback." I'm starting to wish I had gotten a TiVo. : ( |

Make sure the location where Sage writes recordings to, is available. I had these errors when my recording drive was off line.
Also try to ignore preview and click past it as soon as you can, for me it does not work well, and is not needed. |

I think the drive is available....I can see it in Explorer. This is a brand-new build though. The recording drive is not managed by WHS.
Maybe these USB tuners aren't compatible with WHS operating system?? Though I had issued with the Plextor in XP too. The other one worked in XP but the picture quality was bad. Maybe I should just get a new tuner. Does anybody have a USB tuner that is working OK in WHS? Thanks, Michael P.S. The recording drive is formated to 64k clusters and has nothing on it but an empty folder called SageSHOWS. I added both the local drive letter path (S:/SageSHOWS) and the //SERVER/SageSHOWS as separate recording directories because I figured at least one was was correct. When I was initially testing SageTV back in Nov. or Dec., I never got the Happauge USB stick to work. It is possible my problem may have been incorrect video and/or audio renderer settings in detailed setup.

I'd also like to know this as I am ready to pull the trigger on one of those snazzy HP MediaSmart units with WHS, but want to make sure that the new USB HD-PVR will work with it.

If you did a default install, the Sage service is probably using the "system account", and won't be able to write directly to shares (\\name\share instead of drive letters). And take out one of the recording directories - you're setting yourself up for intermittent issues when recordings to one of them work and the other doesn't because of share permissions. Things you can try: 1. Have the sage service logon as a named account (make sure that account has read/write permissions in the sage install dir!) You'll need to remote-desktop to the server or logon locally and do this through the control panel. For extra credit you can try W2003 remote admin tools, but I haven't bothered yet. 2. Abandon all pretexts of security and set "Everyone" as read/write permissions on the recording drive AND the share. If you set the service to use a named account you can just give that account r/w access WHS is based on Windows 2003, so security and permissions are an issue that needs to be understood and dealt with. I have two USB tuners (R5000HD'd VIP-211s) working fine under WHS.
