Prioritizing tuners

Is there any way to prioritize tuners? What I mean by that is to tell it that you want to use tuners in a certain order? I've got 2 PVR-500 dual tuners. One gets Shaw Digital, the other 3 get Shaw Classic. It would be great if I could tell the software to use them in order of Classic first, Digital last unless I was recording/watching a channel that is only available on Digital. What happens now is that Sage uses Digital first in all cases. What the means is that if I'm recording anything I can't watch live TV on the extended channels because that tuner is always in use. It's not a huge deal but if it's easy it would be great to be able to order the tuners.

In your sage.properties file on your server, you will find the following line for each defined tuner

Code:

mmc/encoders/#####/encoder_merit=0
where the ##### is a unique number for each tuner.

The higher you make the merit value, the higher the priority for that tuner.

Just make sure you completely shut down sage before editing the file.

Aloha,
Mike

I had my reply half written when I saw that Mike had beaten me to it. The merit method seems to work well with Favorites and Manual Recordings. For Intelligent Recordings, they seem to use whatever encoder is available, but never kick a Favorite or Manual off the high merit encoders.

Your other option is to go to the channel lineup for the one that tunes Digital and remove all the Classic channels shared by the other tuners so that SageTV thinks your favorite tuner can only tune the extended ones. Of course, that means that you can't record four Classic channels at once.

Great, that worked. I thought about removing channels but this is a better way. Thanks a lot, I didn't think this was possible.
