Choppy / Jerky / Stuttering HD Playback in SageTV (but plays smooth in VLC)
I recently upgraded my PC to a Quad Core Q6600, 3GB RAM, and ATI HD 3650 video with the latest drivers, latest Java 6 version, and am running SageTV 6.3.9 with a HDHomeRun. I get very jerky playback when playing HD TV shows and HD movies (MKV files) through SageTV. This happens with both Full Screen Exclusive on and off.
When I play those same movies through VLC, the playback is smooth as silk and works beautifully. I did choose the ATI Mpeg Decoder and AC3filter for the decoder options, but am not sure if there is something else I need to change. What other properties or options can I change to get the same playback in SageTV that I get in VLC?

To quickly follow up w/ this, SageTV's beta support recommended I use Overlay instead of VMR9 and turn off Full Screen Exclusive. This works like a charm now and the video is much smoother... but am I losing video quality in doing so? I've heard rumblings that VMR9 is better but than using the outdated Overlay renderer.
Man it would be so nice if Sage supported EVR in Vista.

No... but I just disabled it to test your theory and it still was jerky w/ VMR9 and FSE On.

Just resign yourself to living with overlay. Otherwise you will spend hours or days changing and tweaking things trying to get VMR9 to work and the situation will never improve.
I hope that EVR support comes soon. |

Yes that's what I've done. I just hope I don't lose too much quality, etc using Overlay vs. using VMR9.
