skip functions

My Hauppauge remote has two skip functions one is a few seconds and the other around three minutes. I use the short skip a lot and it has started opening a search window instead of skipping forward. Does this indicate that the software for the ir remote needs to be reloaded or should I look to replace the remote control as a hardware fix? What are your thoughts on this. OBTW the back skip functions work fine, just the forward one brings up the window.

Sounds like the skip forward got remapped to the search command. You should go to Setup->Detailed Setup->Commands and see what that button is mapped to and remap it if needed. BTW the long skip is skip forward #2 and the default is 2.5 minutes.

I went there and found a box with a staement below saying press a button to see what it is mapped for. when I pressed skip #1 the box said CTRL+ nothing and a search window popped up. What is the process to remap this key?

Go to Setup->Detailed Setup->Commands. Select Link Infrared/keystroke to SageTV command. You want to link the key to skip Fwd/Page Right.

Is this the Hauppauge remote or an MCE remote that came with a Hauppauge tuner? Is "Ctrl+" all it reports for that button in SageTV? If so, have you installed any other software recently, in stalled a wireless keyboard, re-installed the Hauppauge dirvers, etc.? I've seen that one on the forum when a foreign language was being used (should already be fixed) or when some other software was trapping keystrokes before they could be sent to SageTV. For an actual Hauppauge remote, you could also check the [SageTV] section of irremmote.ini to see what keystroke it should be sending for that button to make sure that hasn't been changed... or try changing it to use a different key.

thank you, I went there and there is a "skip Fwd/Page Right" but there are no key identities.

yes, this is Hauppauge remote that came with the Hauppauge tuner 150.

I did not install anything when this began. I do have a wireless keyboard/mouse but they are seldom used and been there since 2004.

I will check the irremote.ini.

The key identity would appear after you press the key on the remote. However, I think Opus4 may be correct that there is another program that is intercepting the remote. It bothered me when in post #3 you said the search box came up. Sage would just display the value but not act upon it, except for the left or home keys.

ctrl+f is the default value for skip fwd, if it does not show then it was probably unlinked. Anyway, you should be able to link it to the key you want if no other programs are interferring.
