God does not want me to have HTPC, more problems - network encoder

Hi,

I previously had a setup where I had a htpc and media server. Both run the full saqetv 6.3.5. The server has a pvr500 and the htpc has a pvr150. The pvr500 acts as my digital tv tuner while the pvr150 is used to capture the picture from my cable box. Both machines run java 1.6.30. Obviously the htpc runs sage for network encoder function and runs sage as a client.

This all worked fine until a few days ago when my sage server suffered crashes. I think the problem is hardware related so I've used another space pc and configured it as my new sagetv server.

I configured it exactly the same, the only difference is this machine is based on a duo 2Ghz cpu while the old machine was an xmd athlon.

The problem I have is as soon as I add the pvr150 as a video source the sagetv service on my server crashes as soon as I try to play a video or look at the tv guide?!? I've included the hs_err log below. Anyone have any ideas?

You using the same driver for the PVR as on the previous box? Have you tried HWClear and a re-install of the latest Hauppauge driver?

I've decided to greatly simplify my setup and crammed both the pvr150 and the pvr500 in my HTPC box and simply use sage TV on that. I've abandoned all notions of having a network enabled setup or a remote encoder.

I must admit so far its behaving very well.

I do think there is room in the market for an appliance server just like the HD extender. I honestly think PCs with their diversity in hardware, software and setup will always be a pain in the backside for media centre applications like sagetv.
