SageTV 6.2.x and HDHR as Network Encoder ??

I am currently running sage 6.1.9 and HDHR with most likely older firmware as I've had it installed for awhile. I am happy with it as it is as a network encoder.

Can I upgrade sage to 6.2.x and use the HDHR as it is as a network encoder or do I have to upgrade it as well and use the BDA drivers?

I believe as long as you're running HDHR with the older software and firmware you can continue using it as you do now. But if you update the software/firmware you can't go back and must run it with the BDA drivers. You may want to ask on Silcondust for sure.

If you just update your SageTV version everything should still work as it did before.

As a sidenote, after almost a year of happily using the HDHR as a network encoder I was hesitent about moving to the BDA approach, but i've found it to be every bit as reliable in addition to being much easier to configure. Plus the on-the-fly TS->PS conversion is really handy for encoding the video once its finished recording.

my f/w got updated automatically when i tested the new hdhr manager on the laptop a couple weeks ago. it's still running fine as a network encoder. I think i'm going to update to 6.2x this weekend if most of the plugins I use are compatible. we'll see what happens.

I have the HDHR firmware updates and am still running as a network encoder with 6.2.10. I'm not going to upgrade to BDA until I need to. I'm sure I'm missing what the advantage of BDA is???

edit: oops, just checked my firmware/software and it's from back in June. guess I'm not running the latest then am I? Frankly I'm afraid to upgrade now with all the posts I'm reading about problems with stuttering and all.
