Jerky? Choppy? Video Playback

I did various searches here but couldn't find any threads about the same problem:
I have a DVD stored on my hard drive in the VIDEO_TS style.
So, its basically a copy. No transcoding to MPEG4 or anything like that.

When I play it, it looks like every other frame is missing. The images move at a constant rate (so it's not really jerky or choppy) but it just looks like bad animation.

Some details about the system:

HDD - 64K block size, sata drive
Video Card - Not the best Geforce 7200 based card using DVI-HDMI output.
(but since its a digital stream, shouldn't it just pass the data along?)
TV - Sony RPTV
Processor - 2.2GHz Core Duo dual core processor

Additional info: I did transcode it to h.264 and that plays quite smoothly.
But, I would rather not have to transcode the DVDs.

In the DVD settings, what decoder are you using?

Are you using VMR9 or overlay? Any difference between the two?

In the advanced settings, do you have Full Screen Exclusive enabled (FSE)?

Do you get studder in WMP?

Thanks. One or both of those things appear to have fixed the problem.
I get an occasional freeze, but I'm willing to blame the video card for now.
Since this machine is planned to be a headless server and I'll be using media extenders, things should be fine.
