Video problems with ATI fglrx driver

I am running Centros 5.1. Sage is in /opt/sage and Sun JRE in /opt/sun. Sage server 6.3 runs fine. I am having trouble with video running the client. The video (live or recorded) starts playing, there is a breif 2 sec of picture, then the interface comes on top and video sort of disappers. however, I can see the video under the interface elements, but not in the clear/blank part of the screen.

The video card is ATI Radeon X300. I downloaded and installed latest fglrx driver from ATI. XV seems to be enabled (as indicated by xvinfo). I've tried xvmc=true in the properties file but didn't make a difference. I've tried opengl=true, but for some reason it is being set back to false by the client when it runs. Besides I really don't want to run OpenGL overlay to minimize CPU utilization as this box is the server. Any insights or hints are much appreciated.

BTW, I ran the included mplayer on a video file outside of the client and the video is fine (with exact same command line but witout -wid)

Thanks
Sarat.

I wish I could help you. I ran into this problem with a Dell notebook with an X300 card. I've had exactly the same problems with the fglrx driver under Ubuntu. Instead I use AIGLX and the open source Radeon driver. Then Sage works, but in general hardware accelerated video does not. This creates some problems, as my old 1.6GHz Pentium M processor isn't up to the task.

If you figure something out please post it here. I never tried submitting a support ticket. I don't think they support Sage under linux.

I have a dell 9300 with X300 ati card. and for some reason, I couldnt get it to work under CentOS 5.1 even though everything looks great and runs smooth. Once I switch to Ubuntu 7.1 and installed Mplayer files from the install cd. and enabled Hardware acceleration and post processing and enabled the restricted ati drivers things run smooth enough to watch 720P HD files and shows with no issues other than a font issue.

I assume you mean 7.10? I have a Dell 6000 with an X300 card, which is basically the same machine. I have 7.04 on it right now. I wanted to upgrade the video drivers, but its not letting me. I figure I should probably do a clean install anyway to 7.10, but I didn't want to unless I had some reason to think it would work. When you say you enabled acceleration and post processing, you're talking about in Placeshifter, right?
