Placeshifter VS MediaMVP
Hello,
I am trying to determine the difference between the Placeshifter and MediaMVP products, both seem to be able to extend your SageTV over the network to a remote pc? I dont really see much information about what MediaMVP really is? Do both of them allow watching your tv and recordings over a lan and internet etc? Thanks in advance to anyone who can explain all this to me.... |

The Client and placeshifter products are for going to a remote PC. See http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...290#post206290 for the difference between them.
The MediaMVP and HD extenders are for going directly to a TV.

the mediaMVP is a product from Hauppauge. Instead of using a computer to view Sage, you use the extender to view the product. http://sagetv.com/extender.html
You probably want Sage Client or Placeshifter.

Ok, thanks, I think I understand now. I dont want to buy the extender hardware so dont want MVP. You mention SageTV client or PlaceShifter, am I correct in my understanding that the client works only over a LAN but the PlaceShifter can work over LAN or Internet?
Thanks again for your very fast assistance.... Quote:

Yes, you are correct. The placeshifter can transcode the media to reduce the bandwidth required for use on the internet.

The MediaMVP is the extender (well, the SD version of it). It will work over LAN from a SageTV Server.
SageTV Client is a software program that will work over LAN from a SageTV Server. SageTV Placeshifter is a software program that will work over LAN or Internet form a SageTV Server. Liscencing for the Client is installed on the client machine itself. Liscencing for the MediaMVP and Placeshifter is installed on the Server, and will allow one MVP or Placeshifter to be connected to the server at a time, for each liscense purchased.
