Speed up audio in Placeshifter?
I've recently purchased and installed SageTV on a WinXP box and have configured the firewire port on my Motorola 6412 as a video source. I have Placeshifter running on a Ubuntu Gutsy box and the SageTV Client and Placeshifter on a Vista box on the local LAN and most times I get noticeable audio lag on SD and HD channels in Placeshifter. The SageTV Client seems fine and all synced up.
The lag could be 1/4 to sometimes a half second delay after I see people speaking. Remember the old Bruce Lee movies? The lag is also consistent each time Placeshifter is started. So if the lag seems to be a little bit off it stays like that for the entire session but it may up to a 1/2 second some other time I start Placeshifter. Sometimes the audio is spot on even when viewing HD channels.
I've seen settings in the server's SageTV Client for syncing audio timings but not in Placeshifter. And the audio sync seems to introduce audio lag rather than speed it up to sync with the video (negative values killed my feed). Is there a way to sync up audio when using Placeshifter?
To be honest, I'm in a proof of concept stage right now, trying to see what I can and cannot do with SageTV. So, my current Sage server is a POS AMD Athlon 1900+, 512 mb box. I have a GeForce 6800 and Hauppauge WinTV 1600 cards in it too. I know the specs are very inadequate for an HTPC and my plan is to convert my gaming rig (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 2gb RAM, fast harddrives) to an HTPC early next year.
I'd hate to switch over to my gaming rig and find out I still have the same audio lag when using PlaceShifter.
So do you think my audio lag is just a problem with my system being a dog or is there something in Sage I can tweak? Like I said though, the SageTV Client seems completely synced up.
Thanks,
Chris
