Upgrade challenges

First off, I have to say I like the recent updates to Sage.
That being said, every time I update I lose all of my customizations.
I've tried to minimize the STVi's I use to just the essentials, so that's reasonably manageable.
My problem is my personal customizations - I have to manually do these every time I update.
Is there an easier way to do this? I haven't figured out how to easily create an STVi.

An STVI is the easier way. If you want to get your changes into the new STV, you must either redo them manually, or create an editing script (STVI) to do them automatically.

Now since an STV is just a text file, you could conceivably use some other change-management technology such as Subversion to merge changes directly on the text. But I doubt that would be as easy or reliable as the STVI method.

Greg - I've tried editing the XML file, copying and pasting the changes, but they haven't worked. Either Sage bombs out or the changes don't show.
The newer XML appears to have numeric references for the components.

Is there an easy way to create an STVi?

Can multiple STVi's be compiled into one STVi?
