Can I / Should I upgrade from 2.2.8 to 4.0?
What a long day at work today ... I thought it would never end ... The clock just stood still !!!
So, yes I never thought I'd be asking this ... but I am compelled to upgrade my recent upgrade. This is now too good to pass up. OK ... since I did go through the trouble of installing and tweaking 2.2.8 with Cayars STV and several plug-ins, would it be a good idea, or is it even possible to upgrade over 2.2.8 with v.4.0? Or ... Should I call it a day and start from scratch with 4.0? If starting from scratch is the way to go, what should I do? Uninstall Sage 2.2.8 completely, uninstall Java and reinstall from there or must I basically reformat and start all over installing Windows, setting up the network, print drivers, etc.?? Thanks, T. |

I would simply start by making a complete copy of your current SageTV installation directory, then install v4 right over the top of the existing version (not over the copy -- install over the original). You should be able to load your v2 STV, but I'm not entirely sure if there are any incompatibilities since it has been so long since I ran a v2 STV.
There are already quite a few imports/customizations for v4. If you add an import, just be sure to create a copy of the original STV to import into & clear the copy's read-only attribute if needed. If you really want to revert to the older version for some reason, simply uninstall v4, install v2 in the same location it was before, then copy the backup of your v2 installation back into place. That should put you back to where you were before. - Andy

I did upgrade vanilla 2.2.8 -> 4.0.0 last night - server and three clients.
1. The first client I installed by running the setup file from a network place folder. When I hit 'Watch Now' on a recording windows complains about a missing disk - 'try again, cancel, continue' - the shows plays fine, though. Trying to 'repair' the installation from a local setup file didn't fix it. Since I don't know which box is using which key I'm trying to avoid a complete re-install - which might not even fix it .. Anybody seen this? Is this caused by a registry key? 2. I also failed to see any trace of studio. Where is it? EDIT: RTFM! Besides that - no issues. The system has already done its load of recordings. It's well worth it. Last edited by flavius; 11-03-2005 at 07:14 PM. |

So than if you upgrade from 2.2.8 and you have Cayars STV on 2.2.8, will the Cayars features / plug-ins still work in 4.0??
