IR is as stupid as a box of rocks
Sage will record the same show twice at the same time - the favorite in HD and *intelligently* the SD version as well.
Both shows have the same show ID. |

Same Show ID or same Episode ID? If it's the same Show ID, Sage has no way to know they're the same.

What does my post say? The standard STV does not reveal the episode ID, at least I couldn't find any. Those Medium episodes do have an original air date, which is identical of course.
Sage does that for several of my favorite shows whereas the new comcast with TiVo knows better. Sorting this out is possible, technically not even difficult, even without the episode ID. Calling this *intelligent* is false labeling. ceterum censeo |

It's probably an error from Sage's show data provider. Regardless of where the fault lies, it may be annoying but I'd rather have 2 copies of the show than have it miss the show altogether. Certainly nothing to get so upset over...

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...98&postcount=3 From your post it is hard to tell, but this might have something to do with the problem you're experiencing. I've actually never tried Andy's workaround, though I may soon. I've just been living with the duplicates and deleting them where I see them. Actually, at some times, the SD analog duplicates have come in handy when the digital recording can't be rendered by a certain client (I've been battling problems with rendering, and the analogs haven't been a part of the battle). |

You could turn off intelligent recording. I did that in 2004 and it hasn't been a problem since.
Does IR still record 24/7? I was getting tired of having 12-14 hours of the cable news channel recorded and little to no disk space free. |

The reason I ask is because how Sage behaves depends on which "type" of data Sage has. If it's an SH# show, that means that the guide data does not distinguish one airing from another, it doesn't have per-episode information thus Sage records them all "to be safe". If it's EP# id, then Sage can tell one from another and shouldn't record duplicates. My guide data (Dish Network USA provider) has proper EP### numbers for Medium Quote:

I've been using IR for years now and initially it takes quite a bit of handholding/training, but after a while it gets pretty good, and doesn't take much tweaking. Now that's with a couple very significant *IFs*. IF you don't watch live TV, or if you do make sure it's stuff you'd like recorded IF you don't have a lot of people recording things that you wouldn't want IR to record IF you make sure that you mark things you don't want IR to consider as NOT WATCHED and/or DON'T LIKE (this is a major problem with folks who watch a lot of Live TV or fall asleep with LiveTV playing) You should set aggressive_negative_profiling=true to help keep IR in check. Otherwise it's VERY loose with what it thinks you like SageTV could fix that first one easily by having a switch in sage.properties for whether you want Live TV "recordings" to be included in IR calculations. SageTv could fix the 2nd one by setting up user accounts in Sage. That way the kids have their own accounts as well as the Wife, babysitter, etc. Then allow a checkbox for which accounts recordings you want IR to use/ignore. Of course setting up favorites or manual records would also require a way to designate which user(s) a favorite or manual record applies to. But as it sits, if you don't watch live tv then you can train IR pretty quickly and it works quite well. It's even saved my bacon many times when shows got moved around in the schedule with enough lead time to make it into the guide downloads that Sage gets every day. It's also found new shows/episodes that I didn't know about.
