New Sling Device possible way to get HD to our SageTV box??

The details are thin and chances are we will never seen it anytime soon.

Wondering if this device can infact input HD content over component and stream HD content out, could it not be used as an HD source for SageTV?

Also if Sling can capture component HD and stream it in an affordable way seems like others should be able to.

Well the article does say it streams out HD. Rather curious though, as I don't think anybody really has an internet connection that can stream out HD

I assume it is compress HD, such as mpeg2 or better. Even with the poor compression of mpeg2 you only need about ~19mb/s, otherwise the HDHomerun would not work well, it can do 2 HD streams over 100baseT.

Now uncompessed HD, no way.

Edit: sorry reread your post and you are referring to ISP connection not LAN. In the US yes that would be pretty hard to come by, however in other areas such as parts of Asia they do have connections that could support this. I suspect the purpose of the HD streaming would be for within the same home though.

That's the thing, slingbox doesn't seem very useful inside a home to me.

Nor I, unless I can use it as an HD source for SageTV

The problem with Slingbox is they use a proprietary player with an unreadable stream to outside software. You would be hard pressed to get anything out of it unless you use SlingPlayer. They might let you record it locally with their software, but I bet even it will be in a format only Slingplayer can read. I truly hope I am completely wrong, because I would snap it up in a heartbeat, but I am not holding my breath.

We should start a new thread to discuss the HAVA offering...

What offering? Do they have something new coming out?

I have the Hava HD Wireless with Component inputs. It does not do HD. It scales down to 640X480

Update: I guess your talking about this?
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/h...hava-streamer/

Probably the same situation, but it would be nice if they would open the streaming up locally to whatever could connect.
