Phone # for Sage

Why doesn't the company have a phone number for support? How legit can a company be without a listed phone number.

They don't have the manpower to handle phone support, so all support is via e-mail. They are very responsive.

Aloha,
Mike

oh I don't know - about as legit as a company is that is immediately responsive to forum postings, email questions and releases new software version at a VERY IMPRESSIVE pace....but hey - not having a phone number is pretty sketchy - Andy - can I have some digits

You know I never noticed that.

Didn't noticed that AOL hide their phone number either until I tried to end my sub years back

Don't worry they have your money now.. You are sucked into the fold.
Welcome to my world.

But really a lot of internet companies do not have a phone number. They still function without a hitch. I think they are smart at SageTV because if I had their number I would call them constantly asking them idiotic questions like. (Are you going to build in support for the VGP-XL1B into your product?)

Eventually they would get upset and close down the company because of all the costs that they incurred because of my idiocy.

The reference to AOL just reinforces the OP sentiment...

Which would you rather have?

A) Knowledgable, prompt support via email.

B) Helpless voice support outsourced to a 3rd world country.

Normally I would never purchase something from a site that does not have a phone number just in case I need to get an RMA. The other frustrating thing with support via e-mail is the fact that it can take several days to resolve a problem where a quick 5 minute phone call could resolve.

The least they could do is have a Live Chat option. As I see it, this is yet another reason why the average user will not purchase and install their products.

Just an observation.

Statements like these always make me wonder: since I purchased and installed their products, does that make me above or below average?

I brought my pencil.
Give me something to write on, man!

With a product like SageTV, I wouldn't have a live # either. Too many folks would call without RTFM. And honestly, for $90, whaddya expect?

Now if this was a $1000 product, that'd be another story, but the second you make a phone call, SageTV is losing money on you. It's not about the # of customers, it's about profitable ones. And profitable ones are the ones who don't call with questions that are easily and best answered via the forum with step-by-step instructions, screenshots, etc. All of us probably had identical questions at one time or another and have probably asked the same question, and this way SageTV/reps can answer once and leverage it for 100 other callers.

Sage support has always gotten back to me within hours using email...sometimes with the owner/president/ceo in the response chain. Try that with Steve or Bill That said, your opinion is as valid as mine...BTV may have phone support

Order Support by phone only. All technical support is done via email and online support tickets (and their support really is lacking).
