Winamp Remote Streaming, Orb, Purevideo and/or AC3 problem
Hey,
There's a new front end avail for orb called winamp remote: https://winamp.orb.com/orb/html/index.html The interphase is nice: Really slick and works great for streaming my .mp3 collection to my WM Treo. I used to have the old version of orb a while ago, but never got orb 2.0 to stream video proberly. It says that the mpeg 2 codec is not available. My server/client combo uses Nvida purevideo codec. By default, the orb server trys to use dscaler, but has options to use other installed codecs. I have a bunch left over from previous installs, but changing the selection doesn't seem to affect the inability to stream my videos. From looking at the orb forums, it appears there is a problem with purevideo and or ac3 filter that doesn't allow the orb streamer to decode my videos. They talk about using the filter manager to disable stuff? Why do I get a message: "Orb did not find a suitable codec installed on your home PC to stream your [filetype] file. Please go to www.orb.com/codecs to download free Orb-compatible codecs" when I try to stream certain audio or videos files or live TV? Orb can only stream local files on your PC that can be decompressed using Orb-supported DirectShow-compatible codecs. However, because all DirectShow codecs are not necessarily supported by Orb, the best rule to determine the Orb-compatibility of your codec is to try to play such media file locally on your Orb PC in the mplayer2.exe application: On your Windows desktop, click Start, then Run, then type "mplayer2" in the "Open:" field, and click OK: when Windows Media Player opens, fetch your media file (from File > Open). If the file plays in this player, Orb should be able to stream it. If it does not, you do not have a suitable codec for the specific file you are trying to stream in Orb: download here a free Orb-compatible codec. Anyone else with purevideo and or ac3 have problems streaming video from orb? I need someway to disable purevideo from the equation while keeping it available to sage....

Working now...
I kind of followed this guys recs: I find a DirectShow filter-manager to be a valuable tool in troubleshooting these types of issues. Softella.com has (at least had last time I looked) one that I employed to set merit values for the filters for which I wanted my system to give preference - and more valuably, to un-register those which were left over from other media-players, video-editing packages and transcoders. Also, you may want to get a copy of Microsoft's GraphEdit utility and use it to render your various problematic media files to determine which DirectShow filters are actually being used on your system for each file-type. On my system I found that without some merit tweaking, the standard MPEG-2 audio (Layer II) for example, still wound up being decoded by the stock Microsoft quartz.dll even after installing the NVidia stuff. The filter-manager mentioned above can be utilized to make adjustments such that it will be rendered using the PureVideo decoder (nvauddec.ax) if you so desire. Either way seemed to work, I just wanted fewer variables in the decoding scenarios. I had that quartz codec with a high merit and ac3 with a really high merit. I downgraded them to normal using softella. The key is to reboot after changing the merit.
