Firmware Update 92%

The firmware upgrade for my HD extender has been sitting at 5890k/6354k (92%) for about 30 minutes. I suspect that this is not a good thing, anyone have any ideas?

That downloading or writing/flashing? I've done a couple and while it does take a while, I've never had that happen. You may well have to contact support. I really hate to recommend anything (even stuff I might try) because I have no idea what would happen.

It is trying to Flash/Write, I'm pretty certain this is a fatal error.

If you get to the point that the Troubleshooting Guide in the HD100 manual doesn't solve it, then you really should contact support, as it says.

I have been through the troubleshooting - except for - the reset procedure as it requires turning the system off. I suppose at this point since it has been stuck at the same point for a hour and a half doing the reset can't hurt much more!!

I did submit a ticket - just hoping to find some information without having to wait up to 72 hours.

Update...

For grins, I used the remote and pressed "enter" and I was returned to the check for update screen. Being somewhat bold I selected "update" and I ended up back at the same point again - hung up at 92%. I did the system reset and at this point I can use it to watch live TV and recordings.

Since no one else is having this problem, I will assume that I was the lucky one to get the stubborn unit!

One of my two hung for a while (20 minutes or so) somewhere in the high 3000 range (don't remember the %) but made it through. The other hung on the reboot screen for 2+ hours before I power cycled it.

The good news is if the firmware is hosed and the machine is inoperable, there is a recovery procedure.

That is good news. My firmware update went fubar and the machine is now inop. Any chance I can find out what the recovery procedure is, or will I have to wait for support to get back to me?

In any case, thanks for the good news.

My firmware updates very slowly. It downloads and erases quickly but the writing goes about 10KB per second. Is this what others are seeing?

I'm at work but in the manual there is a reset procedure. I think you hold the HOME and LEFT keys while turning the power on from the switch on the back of the unit; continue to hold the the buttons for 3 seconds. I was a little confused as the button the manual refers to as HOME seems to be MENU on the unit itself. Please double check the maunal before trying though!

Hi,

I tried that and had no success. I think that just clears the setup options. I am pretty sure that the firmware is hosed because I get no video output whatsoever.

Thanks anyway.

If the firmware has to be updated, Sage should have done it before shipping them to eliminate paying customers from getting unusable products.

The boxes come from China. The latest firmware is 121107. I'd rather update my own, thanks.

I is unrealistic to upgrade the firmware before shipping. That is not how manufacturing and distribution work.

It sounds like the extender works with the shipping firmware. So the product does work out of the box.

I think of firmware upgrades along the same line of buying a new video card. I never install drivers that shipped with the product. I always download the latest drivers (or stable drivers) from the Internet.

As long as you can recover from an unsuccessful upgrade and not brick the extender I have no problem doing an upgrade myself. Until I hear that is the case I'll wait to upgrade my firmware.
