You might try adding other as a category as well. I am running ArchLinux because of its minimalistic approach.

can't figure out how to edit that poll to add that distro.

I wouldn't bother adding it, most will be running Ubuntu or Gentoo or variants of each based on dialog seen on the forums. I just wanted to be different

If you didn't do it, I think Andy must have. It's up there

I use fluxbuntu for the low overhead, fluxbox's customizability, and the Debian package manager.

Technically I'm running Ubuntu Feisty, but I threw my vote in the Ubuntu Gutsy bucket since it seemed more accurate than "Other". And I'll probably upgrade sometime soon.

Damn, Ubuntu seems to be winning. I haven't voted because i am still having issues with Ubuntu and controlling my sound. I still haven't heard anything from the AMAZING tech support. Fedora i can't seem to tell miniclient to use java 1.6 instead of java 1.7.

Are you running another ubuntu box as client to connect to the server? I am sure if i just have another box as client that it will allow me to control the volume but as to why i can not control the volume on the same box running client and server i don't get.

I think I used Placeshifter once or twice on the server itself when I first was setting up the server but I don't remember having trouble with the sound. Are you getting no sound at all, or you can't control the volume via the PS interface? Do other programs on the box that generate sound (an mp3 player maybe) behave as expected? --John |

No, i get sound just fine. If i press Mute or Volume up/down nothing happens. On the screen (sageclient) i see the mute icon in red and ofcouse when i hit volume up/down i see the bar moving but it doesn't do anything.

FreeBSD?
I saw Solaris mentioned in the poll, and that gave me hope that perhaps somebody is running the linux version in a linux environment on an OS which supports ZFS natively, like Solaris or FreeBSD. But how do you record anything, since you'd need capture card drivers which support the same APIs which Linux uses...?
My plan is to: 1) buy an HD-extender 2) put Sage on my existing Linux DVR (currently running Myth), which has PCI based DVB capture cards that work flawlessly. 3) when the Linux version has support for the HD-Homerun, buy an HD-HR and move Sage to FreeBSD server. Will this work? Is the only barrier to running Sage on FreeBSD the lack of an interface to the capture cards? Will the version which is in beta now (and which will supposedly have HDHR support in the next build) be a free or for-pay upgrade if I buy it now? Drew |

Mandriva 9
I currently have SageTV running on Mandriva 9. I've also had it running on various versions of Fedora, Ubuntu, and older versions of Mandriva.

Nope. Every Sage SD/HD extender user is running sage client on Busybox linux.
Here's the HD extender. 2.4 kernel on an ARM processor: HTML Code:

Archlinux
Running Archlinux (Linux SAGE-TV 2.6.23-ARCH) .. I'm with bcjenkins on the minimalistic approach. I initially went step by step with the suggested Gentoo method, did exactly as documented and had a system that worked just as I'd expect from Gentoo.. Without saying anything more about Gentoo, I had Arch up and running Sage with Media Extenders operational within about 1.5 hours, quite a contrast to the err former OS I do have to say though, the installprofile.xml via the Gentoo install was very well done, just didn't work out for me after the install was complete, had continual issues with getting my Geforce 6600GT working the way I wanted.
Thanks! --Daiyox |
