1080I?

I just purchased a Samsung 245BW
1920x1200
to use with my pcie GV-NX76G256D-RH (which supports 1920x1200)
Before I had a 1440x900 monitor
recording from HDHomeRun
I have recording set at max quality
Is there any other settings I need to do to
get the BEST resolution from HDHomeRun to Samsung 245BW???

Thanks,
Ray

With the HDHomerun or any other OTA or QAM capture device the quality has not affect on the recording. As Digital HD is a stream directly written to the disk. The other thing you have look into is if the OTA is 1080i or 720p. But you can change that as it's set by the broadcaster.

Nope. You are just capturing the incoming stream, qualiy settings don't work for digital capture.

Hi Ray,

That's correct, if your streaming a Signal from the QAM or OTA from the HDHomerun or the HVR 1600/1800 the quality setting has not effect. Since it's a digital stream and the compression (quality) is set by the broadcaster.

You can set the quality if you like but it will have no effect.

The ability to modify the 'Quality' of a scheduled recording is dependent on the 'Encoding' capabilities of the individual capture device. The SiliconDust HDHomeRun receives and passes along previously encoded program streams received via an ATSC or QAM broadcast in MPEG-2 format.

The 'Quality' setting is mostly used with ANALOG Capture Devices (that have software or hardware encoders) to set the encoding type and level of compression.

So no matter what level of "quality" I set for HDhomeRun the file
size for one hour of recording will always be the same?
Thanks,
Ray

Yes, the HD signal is a digital MPEG2 stream from the broadcaster. The card just tunes the signal and passes the stream to the computer to store or playback. The quality of the stream determines the size of the file.
