No Streaming Server Found

I'm running Sage 6.2 (or is 6.1?). My MVP (wired) was working pretty smoothly for a few weeks. Then today we had a power outage. The server is running fine, so is my placeshifter PC. But the MVP gives the following message: "No Streaming Server Found"

I've tried unplugging the cables and power from the MVP for 15 minutes and then rebooting the server computer and then plugging in the MVP. No luck.

This is frustrating because I am a non-techie and this is the third time I've run into connection problems (slightly different problems the last two times) with the MVP. In other words I thought I had finally figured out how to get it to connect.

In the first situation, I solved the problem by setting the miniserver_forced_IP address. in the second situation, I had to reboot the MVP and try rescanning to find the server - in both cases I spent hours before I found these solutions.


Now this new situation is a THIRD connection problem - one I haven't seen before, and being a non-techie, I'm at a loss.

I noticed a similar thread.

The green light is ON at my router, and the orange light is on at the MVP. So I don't think the unit is damaged - it just won't connect.

Is it possible my MVP needs a firmware upgrade? And if so, how do I do it?


(I just got the machine about 6 weeks ago, from Frey Technologies so I imagine it has the newest firmware). Said version 2.05 - is that the newest?

I also tried deleting the ClientProperties file. Didn't help.

By the way, the MVP is plugged into my DLink router, which is a fairly new model that I bought from CompUsa about 3 weeks ago.

Ok, I reinstalled SageTV and it seems to be working.

Very frustrating - above I didn't even mention another problem I had after the power outage - the server computer was getting stuck on the SageTV splash screen, a problem which I solved by temporarily starting up the SageTV service.

Once again, several hours wasted troubleshooting SageTV.

this has happened to me several times to my MVP, Every time this happens, I leave unplugged for 10 minutes sometimes 15 minutes and plugin back in and it will find my server.

Does your server have a fixed ip address or is it DHCP as well? The MVP gets a bit finicky when the server changes IP address.

Another option would be to go to the Hauppauge web site and download the MVP software; install it, and see if the MVP can connect. Then, uninstall the MVP software and see if Sage will boot on the MVP.

Find out what IP addresses are assigned to your MVP and SageTV computer. Then check your router to make sure the required ports are open. The MVP can change IP addresses when they are running DHCP. The MVP and/or computer changes IP addresses, then your router rules have to be changed. You might also have to tweak software firewalls if you don't open them up to your private subnet.

I changed my SageTV computer to a fixed IP to end some of the IP address movement with DHCP setup. There are routers that allow you to assign a DHCP fixed IP address using the MVP's MAC address - that would stop the DHCP IP addresses from moving around. I used to have a router with that feature, but it was wiped out by lightning.

Now I just open up a couple of extra IP addresses in my router that the MVPs might acquire when they move around with DHCP.

I recently had this problem and no amount of rebooting the server or unplugging the MVP would solve it. The only thing that got it working for me was to disable and then re-enable the extender server within the SageTV UI.

Unfortunately a lot of these flaky "MVP won't connect" issues are "solved" by trying random things, throwing the chicken bones, and hoping.

With a little luck my MVPs will soon be collecting dust while I am busy watching HD through my new HD extenders.

All in all, what Sage has done with the MVPs is really amazing. The MVP is a very basic piece of hardware and the fact that Sage works so well on it is a testament to Sage programmers. Even though they are sometimes a little finicky they are still well worth it for SD viewing.
