Very sluggish in 6.2.10

I just upgraded from 6.2.4 to 6.2.10 and found it to be VERY sluggish. Lots of twirling wait bars, lots of waits, some hanging, etc... On rewind, the audio drops for several seconds, etc... I had no problems at all on 6.2.4

I like the new features, and enhancements (it plays my old Divx AVIs and Quicktime archives flawlessly now!), even though the UI is a lot more cluttered... but would like to get rid of the waits... Can anyone recommend any tweaks?

System: Athlon XP 2200, 1.5 Gb Ram, 130 Gb ATA-133 Seagate primary drive, 300 Gb ATA-133 Seagate media drive, ATI Radeon 9550.

If you haven't already, upgrade your java version to 1.6. It makes a big difference.

As of October 2007, the latest version of Java from Sun was 1.6.0_03

See what version you are using:

http://www.javatester.org/version.html

Do a manual install of V.3 here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Did you ever get this corrected? I just upgraded to 6 and have the same problem. If so, what was the solution?

Nope, still having the problem. I am hoping that the latest SageTV update will remedy it. If not, then I may escalate to SageTV support...

What version are you using? Also, do you use Placeshifter, as that to has gone from being reliable to non-functional since the upgrade to v.6

Very sluggish in 6.2.10

I was using 6.2.10... no placeshifter. I have 2 clients, but they normally run fine.

I just upgraded to the latest 6.3 version, and the waits are mostly gone... Only issue I have now is when I enable 3D acceleration and the new animations... I can't watch video. If I turn off the animations, and turn off 3D acceleration, all is fine... I am using the Cyberlink decoder with Overlay. VMR9 is way too slow...

It is odd, though, that those 2 items won't work on my system. I have a 2.2 Ghz box with 1.5 Gb ram and a Radeon 9550. It's not a state-of-the-art gaming system but it's no slouch either, compared to a standard user desktop.

Have you checked how large your JVM Heap is getting? If your Total JVM Heap Size is hitting the 200MB maximum limit you need to increase it. This will speed things up noticeably. I increased mine to 512MB and it's been nice and smooth since. Sped up both Placeshifter and MVP.

I wish Frey would increase the default size to 512MB. This would probably alleviate much of the slowness people report on the forums and keep people from having to monkey in the registry to increase it.

Can you explain more about this JVM Heap and how do you check current size and how large it getting and also how would you increase the size?

Thanks
Bill

To check it go to Setup->Help->System Information. Scroll down a bit. It will be the last item before "System Configuration Details." Just as an example I just opened Placeshifter here at work and mine is 247/257/533. Currently using more than the 200MB default size. If I still had it set to 200MB it would be sluggish.

To change it follow here:
