6.2.10 broke dolby digital dialogue
Installed 6.2.10 from 6.1.9 and noticed all dd 5.1 dialogue went super quiet. All music and effects volumes stayed the same.
I did a system restore to make sure this was the problem. Restore fixed it and then I lost it the second I reinstalled 6.2.10. It is a playback (not recording) issue (downloaded dd files have same issue). Any thoughts? |

Sage installs its own DD (AC3) decoder so that might have taken over when you installed 6.2.10. A simple fix would be to go into your audio properties and explicently pick the decoder you want to use (ac3filter is the one Sage installs). Odds are one of them is the one you used to use.

I'm having the same issue and the sound is crap. In the default settup (which is Sage MPeg 2 audio decoder)...there is not dialogue just some very low level effects type sounds. I tried Nvidia decoder which doesn't work either (no sound at all) and then tried Cyberlink, I then get the dialogue but frankly the sound is pretty lifeless so that doesn't excatly work.
My setup is SPDIF out to Denon Amp. Please help! |

evilpenguin,
Thanks changing to the nvidia audio decoder fixed my problem! Of course, in tinkering with it (xp restore points and sage reinstall) I broke my USB-UIRT.. so another post for that jmv, This does seem to be a codec issue. Try different ones and try some outside Sage to see if the problem persists? |

presuming it's not a codec issue,
make sure your rear speakers are working as the voices in the dolby track typically goto the rear speakers (or the majorityof the volume does). If you are only running front speakers only make sure your amp is set to this, as then your amp channels the rear noise to the front as well, or my amp certainly sounds like it does

I'll try the nvidia again but when using the 6.1 version, I used the Sage decoder to get the best sound...that one doesn't work anymore (muted dialogue) and I think I rememeber trying Nvidia decoder originally (which I think resulted in no sound) and then switching to Sage. It isn't a receiver/speaker problem...Movies through either TheaterTek 2.4 or PowerDVD Ultra work great. They all get SPDIF from the same HTPC...it is only Sage that is borked...although VLC is also borked when I tried playing back an MKS file with DD...had to manually swithc VLC to "stereo" to get the dialog on that one.
Does anyone have any good ideas on how to clean up the codec issue / or test exactly what audio graph SageTV is using? Or any other place I should look to clean this up (e.g. some sort of "codec" options). thanks, mv |

I have to do this every time I install SageTV.
1. Launch Windows Media Player with an MPG 2. In the preferences select DVD and then click advanced. 3. You will most likely be getting an AC3 configuration dialog. 4. Select the prefer other decoder or something like that 5. Exit Windows Media Player. 6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 and now you should see the default audio decode properties page instead of AC3. In my case it brings of the NVidia audio codec settings and then audio is correct again. For whatever reason when Sage Installs AC3 it takes over as the audio codec unless told to allow others to work. This is really annoying behavior, I have SPDIF and do not want AC3 doing anything in the PC. It would be nice if Sage gave an option for installing this. John
