Use my own complied mplayer instead of sagetvplayer? Is this possible?

Is there a way to set SageTv to use my own complied mplayer instead of sagetvplayer for playback?

I did experiment by overwriting the sagetvplayer with my mplayer renamed to sagetvplayer but it just gave me an playback error.

Thanks
Bill

I wish it was possible but sadly, the answer is: No.

Darn and thanks for replying.

I think SageTV mplayer is so outdated that they should at least keep the mplayer aka sagetvplayer up to date or offer an upgrade to allow us complie our own mplayer since it an open source applicaiton.

I was hoping I could use my own for some of the newer stuffs added to mplayer and it not like we can pirate SageTV using our own mplayer 8-/

Write to SageTV and ask for the code updates they did to the source. Then incorporate those changes in your version and compile - would probably work then but you probably should ask that question of them as well.

AFAIK, the issue with not be able to replace the mplayer is that Sage recompiled the mplayer with some of their own code. It was mentioned that they did the mods on old mplayer code that has since changed, and that the sage code won't work in the new mplayer code without redoing it.

Like I said they need to seriously update their mplayer or at least change SageTV that it can use mplayer without a mod in it.

The current mplayer is an huge improvement over the old mplayer. I wanted to use my own mplayer because it have a nice closed caption support allowing me to change the look or fontsize or layout etc.

They will gladly hand over the full source for the mplayer code. Just send an email and ask. Maybe you could recompile to include the support your require without any code modification. They don't necessarily enable all features in code. FWIW - Mplayer has not had a new stable release in about a year. They just released 1.0 RC2 last month.
