Which files to transfer to new HTPC?

I been using my desktop computer as an temporary HTPC to see how I like it for several months and now I can't live without it. My desktop is pretty old and I been using even an older laptop for my work and want my Desktop back for work!

So I went ahead and order a bunch of new hardware just for HTPC a Gigabyte board 2 Gig ram AMD64 +6000 AM2 etc. I am probably going to still install WIndows XP 32bits which is currently what I am using on my desktop on the new HTPC.

My question is I am planning on installing everything fresh .. the OS and update it then SageTV and SageMC but I want to keep my recorded show intacted and my Watched Show data and my tuner source channel listing since I have edited all those channels moving them around.

So is there an export/import or certain files I just move over to the new HTPC after installing/upgrading?

Thanks
Bill

There's a FAQ on how to move recordings.

Wiz.bin contains your favorites and watched history.

Channel lineup info is in Sage.properties, but there's also some hardware-specific stuff in there, so you don't want to simply overwrite the new file with an old one from a different machine. Maybe someone else has more info on which specific property entries to copy over, but in general I believe the expectation is that you should reconfigure things through the UI if at all possible.

Agreed, you can strip out the tuner info but it's best to config fresh as you have probably learned some things since your first installation. This will keep needless stuff out of your properties file.

The wiz.bin needs to be transfered with the recordings.

Thank you for the replies and advices!

I think I will just redo channel edit again but at least I can move my watched show and recordings over.

Also if you install it then immedately go to service control and launch the service. Then launch the client on the server your config files will be more logical.

Many config before they go into service mode, if you do you just need to config again and you wind up with needless stuff in one or the other.

I got the HTPC built and installed. I was able to transfer all my recording and wiz.bak over to the new fresh install SageTV without a hiccup.

I went ahead and remapped the whole channel again using remote control after looking the properties files and determine it would be too much work trying to edit the part out and paste it in the new properties file.

I think maybe next feature SageTV devels should seperate channel map from properties into it own file per tuner.

I am quite happy with my new HTPC! You can read about it on this site Hardware forum.

I will be doing the exact same thing in a few weeks. I have been testing sage on my main pc for several weeks and just started ordering parts for the htpc. I will want to do a clean install in the new system only preserving favorites, shows and show related info. Is everything still working out ok with no surprises?

Where is the Wiz.bin file? I do not see it in the Sage directory or the common files directory.

Thanks,
Ralph

Wow!

Now that I am getting into this Vista thing, I understand what all the moaning has been about.

Nothing works in Vista.

I am installing XP on a second hard drive and will have a dual boot. XP for now, until Vista is ready (if ever).
