Webserver help

Hi guys, I finally got webserver to work thanks to the direcitons in the wiki. Man, this program rocks! I can view photos, videos, tv shows through it! Awesome.
I am just curious if someone can help me open up that port to get access remotely. I have opened up port 8080 on my dlink router but I can't figure out how to access it. Lets say the ip address of the comptuer is 192.168.1.195 and I opened up port 8080. What would I type in the bar at the top at work to access my webserver?
Or am I missing something
Thanks
Mo

Set your router to forward port 8080 to 192.168.1.195:8080

Then the url would be:
http://<your ISP assigned IP address>:8080/sage/Home

Just make sure you have your User/Pass set, and watch for the guys in expensive suits riding in black vans circling the block.

you have to type in your WAN IP address, that is the IP address that the router gets to talk to the internet. http://WANipaddress:8080/sage/Home . That IP address can change if you get your IP adress assigned dynamically, which most people do. If you get a dynamic DNS account at a place like no-ip.com, you can use an easy to remember address like http://MOspvr.no-ip.com:8080/sage/Home

edit: to expand on Conejo's post with port forwarding 8080 to 192.168.1.195, make sure that your server's IP address will always be 192.168.1.195 either by setting it statically in Windows, or getting the router's DHCP server to always assign 192.168.1.195 to your server's MAC address. Otherwise, if you turned off your computer and/or router, your server could be assigned a new IP address and your port forward would be broken.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. I am was able to connect at work to websever. So far I really love it. I am having problems with video streaming though. i can see pictures, and listen to music fine, but videos won't play back. The screen is blank. Any suggestions? I have tried all sorts of mpegs 1,4,8mb playback, and even the h264 playbacks.

Also does anyone know if live tv streaming is in the works?
Thanks
Mo

I have never once gotten the streaming to work, even with VLC installed (which is required).

My best advice is don't even stress out about it. If you want to watch tv remotely, look into the placeshifter.

Again, this is what placeshifter is for. I for one would not want to see the webserver get any more complicated then it is.

I found that it will work sometimes (streaming shows to work) but only if there is no other traffic on my home modem at that time. I just don't have the uplink speed to be able to send any watchable resolution. (nor do I really have the extra horsepower to be transcoding everything anyway)
