Auto Compress... With a twisssssst

Ok.... This software with a few added plugins by people much more talented than myself is some of the most fantastic and compelte software on the market. Was wondering if this was possible?

Due to the (Low Qualtiy) of my MPEG2 Decoding process my image quality is soooo close to what I want, but a bit fuzzier than what I'm used to, BUT I had fixed it in the past with some other pvr software I had by using divx to compress all of my recorded videos. Now here is the twist, I have looked Not into the deepest darkest bowels if this forum, however looked for quite a while and did not find anything either asking this question or a unintnetional answer to what I want to know...

I want the videos to compress to divx after the comskip has run, delete the original mpeg, then list the divx as if NOTHING happened on the back end in the recently or previously recorded TV Shows. I have Divx Pro registered installed and was hoping I could use that to do something "Kinda hoping I need the software that I paid for someday" LOL ANYWAY yea... is something liek that possible without any extensive poking (Like maybe a nifty import or whatever you guys like to call those things)

This would make me no longer Thrilled with the choice I have made to come to this product, but this would excite me in ways most of you would probabaly not want to know.... hrrrmmm... I guess that was already too much information. anyway...

I doo appreciate the help and thank you again for your assistance.

~Bradley

P.S. If someone did ask this question previously... My Bad....

Look in the customizations for EvilPenguin's tool (for SageMC: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21419 and for the stock:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21418) It allows burning to DVD, but it will also convert to Divx, Xvid, h.264 or several other formats and remove the commercials in advance. This is what I'm using and it is great!!!

The download is not available at the moment as he puts the final touches on the next version due in the next few days.

You lose quality when you compress the video, if you don't like the MPEG-2 capture you need to modify that until satisfied. Granted with good setting Divx and xVid don't degrade it too much but they definately are not improveing it.

Well... Kinda

It's not my recording process that is creating bad videos. It's my DECODING process that is the problem. I cannot DISPLAY the crystal clear MPEG that is recorded (I have checked the MPEG on my other PC's and it is clear, I just can't get the quality from this ONE PC, don't knwo why... This is a whole nother can 'o worms maybe we can beat later)... Just not gonna happen, BUT if I encode it to Divx, it looks much clearer when I play it back. If someone has a solution to this that is another aspect I would like to look at, but I would also like to take advantage of the compression stuff...

I took a look at the STVi from Penguin and did like what I saw in the description and screen shots, however I couldn't find if it would convert the videos that were recorded and STILL display them in recorded TV. I literally want this compressions process to happen invisibly in the backgroud. I don't want to move files, I don't want to dink with anything manually. 0 effort on my part after it is set up. It appears that it would only compress the videos but they would only be visible as archive? not sure... As I meantioned I couldn't find much information as to how this Import worked without installing it. Currently I am trying to keep everything installed on this machine to a abre minimum. It is a BRAND new install clean scratch build and I want to image it after it's set up perfectly so we can restore it to this point at any time when it starts to get yucky.

My first priority is the compression. I can start a new thread in another forum for the video playback quality...

Thank You,
~Bradley

Oh yea!!!

In case everyone was looking here and there.

The Video tools from Penguin are now available on sourceforge as a download.. he updated the download I believe on the 17th of last month, so he has a pretty new version.

Sorry forgot to smush this into my last post. I will get the URL if anyone is finding it hard to find the newer release.

Take Care,
~Bradley

The tools definitely leave them in the recordings just as they are as long as you set it up to convert in place. The download on sourceforge is not the complete tool. It is only the conversion piece that he still needs to integrate with an import for Sage.

Roadblock

Well shoot. I had hoped it was the real deal, found it by accident and thought that was it. I downloaded it, but like I sid I hadn't even unzipped the file yet because I didn't want to break anything. I am really looking forward to using this tool as soon as the real deal comes out. This should be perfect!!!!

Thanks again!!!!
