Can't escape the ads

I know that advertisers are looking for new ways to catch peoples' eyes, but this one surprised me: I stopped at our local grocery store today & found that all the lines in the parking lot are ads for some TV show.

I wonder what other weird ad sites I've been missing...

My wife watches Biggest Looser, and she wont skip the ads via comskip anymore because they ask some question at the end of the segment and provide the answer in the middle of the commercial break.

She watches the commecials until the question is answered.

My opinion on that is that if they want our attention they might want to spend some time developing a product worthy of out attention.

For me that would be the question I never know the answer to.

Well at least they're trying something new, as opposed to suing people, or simply complaining that people aren't paying attention.

I think the advertising industry is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. It will be interesting to see how they adapt.

To be honest, I would love to not have my server churning most the day trying to remove ads - I wouldn't mind them if they were worth watching or for products I was remotely interested in, but the fact of the matter is that most commercials are REALLY BAD. Not just _fine_ or passable - but unbelievably loud assaults on the senses of anyone that happens to be in the house at the time.

Maybe the broadcasters should begin by restricting the compression of audio for commercials to something a lot more reasonable so that I don't blow out my ear drums when a commercial comes on. My wife is constantly saying "WHY IS IT SO LOUD?!" whenever a commercial break begins - as if it's _my_ fault, or that SageTV is doing something wrong.

Me: "No honey - that's TV..."

Many times I wouldn't be compelled to skip the commercials if they didn't:
- blare so @$#% loud.
- repeat the same commercial over and over
- had some humor to them. I've rewound (pre automatic com-skipping) many times to catch a Bud-Light commercial
- weren't so long and so often

Yes, as a matter of fact, this was at Shoprite.

The lines said "Parking for <show name & info>"... I wonder how many people asked if they were still allowed to park there or if those spaces were reserved.

Ha! I don't know how far the Starn's chain of Shoprites reaches, but they used to have this funny little jingle that would sometimes play at movie theaters an don the radio. It was something like...

Starns has big boneless hams, your turn
Starns has orange juice in cans
Starns has sandwich bags and cornflakes
Icing for your cupcakes
Hotdogs and hamburgers too
and big red apples for you...

Come on, everyone sing along!

Ah, brings back memories of my time served in New Jersey.

Aloha,
Mike

Yup, I remember the Can Can song too, but it doesn't get stuck in my brain nearly as effectively as the one I mentioned. In fact it's been stuck in my head all morning. Not to worry though, I've almost got it pushed out with the Shaun the Sheep theme song.

Maybe I could help you out by mentioning the Brady Bunch or Gilligan's Island songs... my wife says they push out all other songs stuck in her head just by mentioning them.
