Favorite setting question.

Is there a way to tell a series that I do not want more than X shows stored at any one time, but also that I do not want it to keep recording new ones all the time once its reached X? It seem that if I tell it X and that I do not want it to automatically delete then I'll achieve this, but truth is, I'd rather have Sage delete some of these disposable shows in a pinch for drive space.

I record How its Made for dull moments of TV but I rarely watch it and need no more than maybe 10 around at any one time. If I restrict it to 10, it seems to record new ones about 10 times a day-- which I guess it fine, but its wasted effort. I'd like it to record 10, keep 10 around, but if the server needs space for something I value highly, dump these disposable shows because it can probably record 20 in a day it seems. I'm not sure how to set it so that I meet both conditions.

I don't think the decision engine is that sophisticated; your best bet is to set the favorite to keep only 10, and to never autodelete (which it sounds like you've figured out). That will stop the thrash, and as for space, you may just want to buy a bigger hard drive.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm trying your suggestion. I've got hard drive space, but I may have to reallocate where and how much to use. 10 recordings of SD material isn't alot compared to the number of HD recordings that gobble up hd space, so I'm not all that worried about it. There have been a few instances where I wish the decision engine were a bit more configurable than the basic options which work most of the time for most people.

I've often wanted to be able to set a specific tuner to a favorite. Or tell it to record OTA and SD cable in case weather causes it to crap out. That's another wish list item, but for now it works and does the job well.
