Beginner's Workaround Assistance

Bought the Hauppauge 500 with SageTV two years ago. Got it working with my cable setup quickly and rather simply. Bought a new house in country. Had to switch to Dish and DVR. Love the DVR. Lost the need for the PCDVR so it went to the back burner. Need to get some things off of the DVR and want to link them up. Having trouble getting Sage working again with errors.

I'm looking for a easy program that will work in place of Sage in the short term to capture video with the hauppage while I figure out the details on Sage.

Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to use the recording software that came with the 500 card.

Hookup svideo and stereo rca's from the Dish PVR to one of the inputs on the 500 card, click play on the DVR and record on the PC to copy each program to your PC's HD.

As far as getting Sage to work with Dish, you will have to ask elsewhere as I am a DirecTV guy because of Dish Networks funky equipment.

Hope that helps.

There is a free PVR software on the Hauppauge web site called WinTV2000. I tried it very briefly with a PVR-350 to test the PVR-350 card. The WinTV2000 software looks pretty junky, but maybe it would work on a PVR-500.

After I verified that the PVR-350 card worked, I installed SageTV and never went back to the junky WinTV2000 software. If the SageTV Media Center software is too expensive for you, then maybe you could try the SageTV Recorder. That software is only $20, but you would probably be much happier with the Media Center edition.
