Copy recording schedule to another PC?
Hi,
I'd like to take my recording schedule from one installation of Sage and copy onto another PC running another full installation of Sage. Is this just a matter of copying over the wiz.bin file, or does that contain other settings as well? Is this even possible? Just trying to save the labor of redoing the schedule manually, so it's not a catastrophe if this is out-of-bounds. Thanks. |

The wiz.bin contains the schedule as well as all the shows, info, watched history, etc. Just curious in how are you using 2 complete installs of Sage TV? What is the purpose or problem you are solving doing that?

The schedule itself (i.e. the list of shows that appears on the Recording Schedule screen) isn't stored anywhere, but is calculated dynamically from info in your Favorites list and elsewhere.
If you're talking about copying Favorites from one setup to another, you might take a look at the web server add-on, which can export and import various kinds of information. Favorites might be one of those kinds.

I'm not sure I follow your question. Obviously your favorites are stored in wiz.bin. And if you've marked any airings for manual recording, those marks are stored as well. That information, plus the EPG data, is the input to the scheduling algorithm. What you see on the Recording Schedule screen is the output. So if you restore the same inputs and run the algorithm again, sure, you're going to get the same output. No surprise there.
My point to the OP was that there is no file on disk containing that output that can just be picked up and copied to another machine, and even if there were, it would still be an output, not an input. If you want to recreate the same schedule, you need to do it by setting the up the same favorites and/or manual recordings that produced that schedule in the first place.

I did mean just copying over the favorites from one to the other (to use as a fail safe while we're on vacation). |

The other thing I didn't understand was he reason for 2 installations. But I see now that he wants to keep his shows seperate from the wife and kids. Since Sage doesn't support individial users within Sage where you could keep shows seperate or share them if you want, then his seperate installations is the only way he has to accomplish this. Gerry

If you really need to backup/transfer favorites, then my webserver plugin can do that: In the web-interface menu: Schedule Recordings->Favorites manager Right-Click on the XML button and Save Target As... You now have a backup of favorites that you can import at any time with SageTV->Import XML file in the webserver...
