Upgrade from v4.1 to v5.0: Where do I find 5.0?

I just bought the MVP to set up as a client (including the 6.0 sage client softward). I just realized that my existing sagetv media center software is version 4.1. For some reason, I thought I had version 5.0.

I understand that there is (or was) an option to upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0 for free. I'd do that but I cannot find a link anywhere on this site for a download option for 5.0. All download links point me to version 6.0 for which I must pay the upgrade fee.

Where can I down load Media Center version 5.0 (or whatever latest version I can acquire with my v4.1 license)?

Also, I just installed the trial version of Media Center 6.0. It's nice, but I don't really need to pay for the upgrade. What happens in 15 days when my trial runs out? Will it automatically go back to V4.1? Do I need to reinstall 4.1?

Check this topic to find links to previous versions: Where can I download previous versions of SageTV?.

Version 4.1 was the first version released with support to use an MVP as the extender.

And, when the v6 trial runs out, it will stop working. You'll have to uninstall & reinstall the previous version. Note that the older version will not be able to use the newer wiz.bin & properties files. If you didn't make a backup before installing v6, then you will need to use the backup copies that v6 automatically made the first time you ran it -- they are in the SageTV install direcotry, named something like "Wiz.bin.SageTV V<version #>".

Thanks,

I did not back them up before installing the trial version of 6.0

Just so I'm clear: if I want to have v5.0.4 running smoothly on my PC, I should first make a copy of the wiz.bin and properties files from the directory you mentioned. Then exit SageTV. Then go to Control Panel and uninstall Sage TV completely. Then download and install SageTV media center version 5.0.4. Then copy and paste the old wiz.bin and properties files, replacing the ones that came with the v5.0.4 install.

Is this correct?

I would back up the entire SageTV folder before any upgrades, not just wiz.bin.

As long as you end up using the old v4 data files, then I think that sounds correct. You do not want to use the v6 wiz.bin & properties files with a previous version, because it will not work. Like I said above, look for the autobackup files in your SageTV install directory, named as I posted above.

For future reference, this topic has a more thorough set of instructions for installing an updated version after backing up SageTV's files: How to install a new version of SageTV.
