Transcoder going nuts
I think I may have found a reason for some of the issues with Sage’s transcoder taking over cpu cycles… I had this problem before and associated it with v6.1 since I upgraded from 6.0 and did not have any problems with my system and multiple transcoder processes. Especially since the moment I switched back to 6.0 everything went back to normal. Well today I was messing around setting up a dual boot partition. During the setup of one partition where I have Sage running smoothly with 6.0.19 I also made a change in my WMP settings. The change I made was to allow WMP to adjust my folder/filenames of my music collection.
All was fine again until I rebooted my PC. After getting back into windows and loading Sage the transcoders began eating up 20-25% of my cpu. It confused me since I also just added a GTS 8600 to the mix… I thought it was my new Gigabyte card, until I decided to see if it was my music files. I removed my music directory from Sage and restarted the UI. Upon restarting no transcoders kicked in. To test my theory I re-linked my music directory in Sage and restarted the UI once more. Viola, transcoders came right back. It took a while but once Sage was done processing my music file changes the transcoders went away as expected. To make a long story short, the vast amount of changes made to my music collection directory file structure from WMP caused Sage to start re-importing the music collection adding folder art and so forth, and making the transcoders go nuts. |

I remember seeing a thread where Sage was getting confused and thinking music files were video files. And if that was the case then maybe the transcoder was freaking out trying to get thumbnails for all of your mp3's.

Sage runs the transcoder on each new video and music file to retrieve file format information about the file.
It should only run for a brief time (you will see different porcess IDs in task manager), but if you have several hundred new files then I guess it will take a while...
