New software for MCE remotes

I recently bought a PVR500 MCE kit. It came with a new style IR device that has duel blasters. Only one blaster works with HIP on device and several other peoles also. I have been talking to the person over at the media portal site that wrote the Vista replacement drivers for the MCE remote and blaster. He wrote some software that actually works great with both blasters and is easier to use than HIP (in my opinion). He would like to write a plugin for SageTV so when you install his software it installs the plugin and there is minimal setup on the users end. I am willing to pay for a copy of SageTV for him to write the plugin but he read this link and is unsure about the license. If I understand it correctly you do not have to pay extra as long as you dont charge, am I correct? Is it still concidered non-commercial if he took donations?

If you want an official answer about licensing questions, you'll have to contact SageTV directly.

But, that page is referring to STVs created via Studio, with the point that if you use Studio to develop custom STVs for distribution, they are to be provided w/o requirement of a fee unless you have purchased a commercial use license for Studio.

The point is he isn't charging for the software or plugins and can't pay for a commercial license. Why buy a license if its not needed to write free plugins?

I can see how you got confused, I was going to donate a copy of the regular SageTV to him to write the plugin to make my life, as well as anyone else that wants to use it, alot easier. I just got an official email back also saying as long as he is distributing it free then he doens't have to have a commercial license.
