Intelligent Recordings (fine tuning)

I have not had this enabled in 3 years but thought I would give it another try. Much to my dissapointment, it started populating with shows I have no interest in, despite my persistence when deleting a show. I tell it what I don't like and have for some time now.

Is there a way to fine tune this to only get REALLY HIGH hits or shows only on particular channels? What about the sheer number of shows? Is there any way to adjust any of this? If I could define a filter for Intelligent Recordings, it might help.

Possible Filters:
# per day/week etc
probability scale 1-5 or whatever
prefer channels (order of importance, separated by commas)
prefer types of shows (order of importance, separated by commas)
prefer genres ((order of importance, separated by commas)
etc. etc.. possibilities are endless here.
Any number of filters would go a long way toward helping folks manage this.

Make sure you have selected "Use aggressive negative profiling., that will help a lot. Also go through your viewing history and make sure the shows you are not interested in are NOT marked "Watched" but are marked "Don't Like".

Also; the latest versions of my webserver has a page to manage IR: you can select a group of IR recordings and set them as 'dont like'.

This 'intelligent suggestions' page also works when IR is not enabled so you can see what would be recorded, and manual record the ones you like.

Thanks Nielm, I'd rather not have to set up the webserver. Also, it would be nice if I could manage IR with the remote as I run accross stuff without running to the computer. You wrote some stuff a while back for this but it isn't designed for SageMC. I know you said in PM that you had alot on your plate but I for one, would be grateful for something like that designed for SageMC. Thanks for your myriad of contributions to SageTV over the years. I remember you from way back before the days of Cayars stuff. SageTV was in it's infancy then and you did a whole bunch for us. Many of your ideas were adopted by Frey. I sure hope they give you free upgrades . Thanks again for all your efforts.

Setup-> Detailed Setup -> Customize. Set "Use Aggressive negative profiling for Intelligent Recordings" to Yes.

The only option I have in Setup > Detailed Setup > Customize is > Delete LiveTV files when not using Intelligent Recording. I do not have the option you speak of. I am running version 6.1.9.135. Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

You probably have to be running the default STV if you aren't already. Once you set the property, you can switch back to SageMC.

Yep, I am doing that but still don't see the option. I notice that it is in the sagetv.properties file. Can it be set manually from there?

Sure. Just make sure you completely shut down sage first.

Things are better but Intelligent Recordings just aren't

This one I guess is an oversight in the original the code of SageTV?

I understand there is no 'flag' for suggested items that have been recorded but rather only for future suggested items. Would this be a correct assessment? This is why nothing can be built on the forementioned ideas.

I used to have a DirecTiVo back in the day and had that box hacked pretty good. I even developed a T60 image for some folks as a recall. TiVo was nice stuff but NOTHING AT ALL compared to the SageTV and The MC. TheMC has the DirecTiVo beat hands down!

Suggestions however are a different story. TiVo did a pretty good putting these files in their own little area so they didn't clutter the main list of programming. That way when there was less to choose from, you could go look there for stuff. When you didn't want to see it, you didn't have to. Apparently without that 'flag' in the core of the main STV, you can't do that. But yet people can develop add-ons. Can someone shed some light on what it would take to add 'flags' like that?

You have to enable Intelligent Recording first. Then you will see the option you are looking for, on the second page of the Customize entries.

That's good info, if I ever try IR again, I have made the note to turn this on. Unfortunately it doesn't look like either icons or folders are available for 'Pre-Recorded' suggestions and this is really the main priority. I need a way to filter them out entirely and only look at them when I am without other things to watch. Either icons or folders would be enough I think if it were coupled with that customization feature so that one is great to have. Thanks again.
