Unusual problem with Firefly Remote and SageTV

I'm running SageTV version 5.04, and I've encountered a bit of a problem the last few days with my Firefly remote. Certain keys on the remote (play/pause/FF/menu/input/option/RW/Next/Prev) do not work. I tried reinstalling SageTV , and this did not correct the problem. I also followed the advice in this thread ( http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/show...t=firefly+sage ) but the problem persists. I've also tried reinstalling my Firefly software, and no luck with that either. I verified that those keys on the actual remote are working because they do function in other applications such as windows media player. Any ideas?

Ok, was able to fix my problems by using the software here ( http://www.lmgestion.net/@en-us/4/22/60/article.asp ). Still have no idea what went wrong, one day it was working, one day it wasn't, but seems to be fine now with this software.

Ok, I had your same problem but only with SageTV Client.
If the remote works in other apps and in Sage retains the ability to arrow up, down, sideways and select, then the problem lies in the .xml file for sage that is supposed to activate when the program starts. I am using Vista and it locates these "profiles" a different place than XP so these directions are Vista specific only in regards to file locations. The profiles in XP are somewhere under the documents and settings stuff for specific users or default user.

Ok the file you need to fix is "SageTV-FreyTechnologies-1.4.xml"
(located here in Vista C:\ProgramData\SnapStream\Firefly\Profiles)

Don't worry that the version number is way old it has nothing to do with it.

For a quick fix for SageTV Client just add this line with notepad to the second line of that xml file:

<Identifier ClassName="SunAwtFrame" WindowText="SageTV Client" FileName="C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\SageTVClient.exe" />

That path is for Vista, fix it for your specific path if need be.
Save file and restart Sage client and you should have all keys working.

Ok, that is the quick fix for SageTV Client.

If main Sage app (server) or any other app for that matter is not working with Firefly you need to figure out how to add a proper identifier line to the xml profile file so that firefly knows the app is running and links the appropriate buttons to the commands you want.

Here is a fairly technical document on how to do that.

You can fix these identifiers intuitively if you just look at the exsiting xml profile lines and follow theses instructions:

Use the included AppIdentifier.exe (by default, located in C:\program files\SnapStream Media\firefly) to determine these identifiers for any given application. To use this application, load AppIdentifier.exe and then switch to your target application. Then switch directly back to AppIdentifier.exe and each of the corresponding fields will contain the values for the target application

That AppIdentifier program wil give you the info you need to fix your xml file!
