Heh, yeah I read that yesterday. 1080p AVC decoding is about all my PC can handle, imagine trying to decode something 16 TIMES larger. Even with AVC it would take about 8 UHF channel bands to broadcast this.

This is definantly top end technology though. Movies are only encoded at a max 4000 lines. And I read somewhere the human eye can only see about 4000 lines.

yeah, I read you need something like 24Gbps bandwidth for it too IIRC...recall that NHK basically invented HDTV as we know it today...back in 1969 or something. Super Hi-Vision (as they call it) won't be in stores anytime soon IMO.

Yeah, HD started off analog!
Even though sending HD in an analog format would take up a ton of bandwidth, I kinda wished we stayed with that... No Content protection to deal with

Exactly. It even says in the article it won't be ready for consumers until 2020. Heck, we'll likely have some form of 3d screen by that point.

I didn't really notice the first time I read the article was too busy thinking about the resolution..
They say their prototype Ultra HD camera can capture 4000 frames per second !?!?!?! I mean holy crap..
You can play one second back and normal 24fps it would be 1/166th Life speed and take 2.7minutes to play. You could capture some really cool stuff with a fast camera like that.
