So my WH 42" turned into a WH 47"... but a problem I can fix?
In ym sig I have a photo of the TV I used to use as of this past weekend. It was a nice Westinghouse 42" HDMonitor (DVI input, no tuner).
It only cost me $1600 when I got it. Well... it had an issue down the right side of it, like a 4 inch band of malfunctioning pixels that when 'darks' would roll over it, the darks wernt as dark. This was a whole entire verticle band... wasnt like a pinching was occuring. ANYHOW, cut that story short, I had a tech come out, he said "yup, thats bad, but we have no parts to fix it since the tv is 6 months old". SO he issued a replace order. LOL... big ordeal that was, I wont bore with details, I am getting to a point here... I end up with the brand spankin new Westinghouse 47" HDTV TX-47F430S in its place for less than $300. I get it home, set it up, and low and behold... it has some odd problem with the top portion. You know how if you squeeze slightly an LCD screen, it lightens up spots, and darkens others? Well, three spots across the top have this sort of effect. Its VERY mild, and can only be seen in the couch sitting to the 'right' side of the view. Sitting left side you dont see it at all. Now, this slight 'lightening' of the pitch black isnt noticable in anything being viewed, except if whats being viewed suddenly goes to solid blacks up top, or fading between scenes. I cant take a photo of it, as its subtle enough to not pick up... flash kills everything anyhow, and no flash is a muddy black photo lol. OMG Im getting to the point! Is this like a common thing with LCDs? to not have a perfect pristine solid flat 'null black' from corner to corner, edge to edge? This problem is nothing like the problem was of the 42" that was deamed 'defective' by the tech. This looks more like the plastic screen over the LCD film, is eaither pressing to hard up top, or the top of the film isnt 'anchored' down enough evenly across the top and its doing this. I'm asking here, because with the 'exchange' of defective for new, my 4-year plan was thrown away because bestbuy are asswipes and wont transfer it. So I cant just call a tech out, unless I know for CERTAIN something is wrong with this TV and I will just return it before the 30 days is up (I didnt buy ANOTHER 4-year plan, because well... felt like a ripoff). |

It's probably what are known as "Clouds". Lighter areas on a uniform black screen. High end Sony's (among others) have had them (Check AVS threads). My Olevia has them, but very minutely, and only visible when no content is being played. It comes with the LCD territory (but shouldn't) it seems. You can play the cross-ship replacement game if you want, or go to an actual store and see if they'll let you test one before leaving.

That must be a new thing. I had a car stereo go wonky on me and sent out 3 times. Per the warranty, they replaced it for the price that I bought it for and transfered the warranty and even let me extend it for another year (I paid for the extra year only).
