American Idol finale

I was wondering if any users had problems recording the American Idol finale last night? Fox ran it about 10 minutes late, in an attempt to mess with PVR users.

I'm a former user of SageTV and am currently using MCE. MCE didn't fair too well in this situation.

We started watching it about 1 hour in, so in effect Sage thought we were "watching Live TV", so it continued recording on the same channel into the next program, so we got the end.

As a side note: this functionality has often been criticized in the past. All I know is that it saved my a** last night - my wife was also watching in an hour late and got pale when the OSD approached 2 hours and still no final voting to be seen. Well, I just had to tell her "just don't change the channel, and everything will be fine..."

We did the same. However, MCE stopped recording as well as live TV after the two hour block. In effect, I had to quickly go back to the guide and bring up live TV again for that channel in order to watch the last few seconds.

The problem is that it messes up the recording whether or not you happen to catch the end with it recording. Does anyone know if there is a plugin which can add minutes on to a recording while it is executing?

Same here, didn't see the ending. I think we should add 15mins paddings to every "Finale" shows from now on to avoid future missing endings.

We missed it to and my wife was pissed off

We were watching it an hour in but there was other recordings set, so it didn't auto record the next show after American Idol.

Live shows are a tough deal to record, and if you have any recordings after a live show that goes over their time, then everything after it is shifted

my cable being cut by diggers that afternoon saved my bacon. otherwise i'd have been in the same boat as the rest of you if she hadn't been watching it before the end of the slot.

So, have any of you guys ever watched American Idol before? Was the the finale the first time you watched it or something??? Because it runs over like 50% of the time. I padded it half an hour. The same goes for any live event. You pad it. That's all you have to do. What is all this talk about have to switch to live TV or whatever? Just pad the recording. Sage has this feature built in all ready.

Fox apologized for running over the time slot, so everyone can feel better now.

I've been watching American Idol all season and as far as I recall it hasn't run over like this, not even the live shows.

I pad NASCAR -30min starting and +30min ending. doesn't waste space on the pre-race happenings and usually covers expected delays. no big deal either way. "crap happens;" life goes on.

I'd say that American Idol ran over all season long, usually about a minute or two into House. Fox did take care of House and adjust the commercials, so House never ran over.

I can confirm this. I watch House, but not American Idol. The recording of House always started with a bit of the Idol, but always ended on time.

I was going to say it almost always runs over, but not to that extent.
