Autumnwave Onair GT - SageTV Crashes during channel scan (QAM)
SageTV manages to scan over 200 channels (encrypted/non encrypted), however, after about 220 or so, sageTV service crashes. Is there a way to make this stable?

Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this working before the weekend is over. SageTV support takes at least 2 days to reply to any email with no phone # to call.

If you search in this forum for "onair GT", you'll find a number of threads outlining issues folks have had with it...
BTW, there is no way to do automatic channel mapping for QAM tuners. None of these folks include an OOB carrier decoder, so you can't recieve the actually channel maps the MSO sends to the STB's to map channel number to frequency... So basically, you have to scan for channels. Tune to each unencrypted one and watch enough of it to tell what the channel is, then make a note of it. When you install the tuner into Sage, you take the notes and remap the channels. At least that's how the HD Home run works. Thanks, Mike |

If SageTV doesnt crash when scanning channels, all the local HD channels are actually PSIP mapped very nicely. There are other weird problems with getting this product to work under sageTV as well, such as, some of those QAM channels that aren't locals just wont display at all. Whatever it is, there's nothing to adjust, patch, or fix on my part, its all at the clunky BDA driver layer. Something is definitely broken, and it appears to be by design.

I think I found the problem. SageTVservice just crashed when I tried to scan OTA channels with my Avermedia A180. It NEVER did that before until I added these tuners. Must be an incompatibility... something I'm not going hold my breath for to be fixed.

Probably on my part. Since the OnAir GT only has one input and the 1600 has 2, that might make the difference on the remapping. I have not seen a good guide for this yet. Could someone from Sage put out a guide to help everyone out? The latest sage software 6.2.10, seems to be very unstable with the OnAir GT. I have had numerous lockups and instability issues since putting in Sage. The autumnwave software works great and gets all of the channels. Brian Last edited by gumby1; 11-29-2007 at 10:10 PM. |

And just as Mike pointed out, if your device doesn't play well with SageTV's Scan function then your next best bet it to utilize the device manufacturer's channel detection method, write down the channel or remap channel and hand-enter those remaps into SageTV. Yes, I know the SageTV scan does a lot of work for you, but sometimes the 'hand-off' doesn't work, or it misinterpreted and your left with a mess. Better to do it manually if you're having difficulties. Earlier you said that SageTV Service was crashing. You might want to do these scans with the main app, without the service running. |
