Playing a DVD Through Sage on MVP

I’m using SageTV 6.0.19.120. I’m trying to set up an MVP on a TV in our bedroom that does not have a set top DVD player attached. I figured rather than purchase a separate DVD player for the bedroom why not pop a DVD into my computer and stream the DVD to the MVP. I tried using the play DVD function of Sage with no good results. I get this error sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040209): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback.

I’m currently using the NVIDIA audio and video decoders. I also tried Using Cyberlink decoders, and every combination of things I could think of and still no go. It doesn’t seem to matter whether its DVD straight from mfg or my DVD backups. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that could help me?

The MVP media extender can only play imported DVDs that are not encrypted -- i.e.: SageTV's MVP extender cannot play commmercially encrypted DVDs.

If you have hard drive based DVDs already, as shown in Appendix I of the SageTV manual, then the MVP should be able to play them. That appendix also mentions what the MVP can play.

Since you are already using v6.0, you could try updating to v6.1 to see if that helps.

You can put a DVD player on a baseband input and play the DVD that way. Obviously this doesn't do you any favors on picture quality but IMHO it's worth it for DVD functionality. Unfortunately the guide is kinda goofy when you do this, I'm working on adding static custom channels like that.
