Help playing dvds, macrovision??

Hey guys,
I am using component outs from my pc to my plasma at 1080i. Everything works great so far, except dvds. I popped in Zoolander and it stated before playing the movie : error, something.. macrovision.

How can I fix this?
Thanks
Mo

What decoder are you using, probably the Sage MPEG decoder? THat decoder is a non-DVD decoder and can't decode DVD's.

YOu need to install and use a DVD-capable decoder, such as the nVIdia PureVideo decoder or install PowerDVD or WinDVD and use their included DVD decoders.

If you have a DVD-capable decoder, then from what I've read in other posts around here (from a quick macrovision forum search), I believe you are going to get a Macrovision error due to the component output. I think you could try changing to a lower resolution, like 640x480, or use a different video connection.

I think Andy has the right answer here. Macrovision limits the output resolution to a maximum of the native DVD resolution over analog video connections to your monitor/TV. It will not allow upscaling. This does not apply to a digital connection (DVI or HDMI). That is why all upscaling DVD players must use a digital connection to allow the upscaling. Any means of bypassing the analog Macrovision 'protection' is not exactly legal and so cannot be discussed here. HTH

Aloha,
Mike

Read the forum rules, please

Now that I've edited or deleted a few posts here, I have an idea for the next person who wants to post a helpful tip about certain types of software... go read the forum rules first, particularly item #4. It gets a little tiring removing the same comments from each person who thinks they have a novel idea to suggest -- there is a reason it isn't already included in a previous post!

I doubt there is anyone around here who actually likes certain restrictions in rule #4, but they will be enforced.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Will Do. Sorry about my previous post about a work around that was really just a guess and probably would not have worked anyway.

I appreciate that you are keeping everything legit and thanks for all the awesome advice so far!!!!
