Red number in upper right corner?

I've been using 6.1.8, and now 6.1.9 and I've had a little bit of freezing, slow menus, etc. - no big deal. But I have noticed that when Sage is going to crash, it shows a little red number in the upper right corner of the screen (photo attached). It is usually a 1, but changes to 2 and 10 sometimes. Is this some type of debugging left over from a previous version? I've kept installing every new release over the previous one, maybe I should try a clean install, but setting up the remote is a pain. Anyone see this number like I do?
Thanks-
Rob

what video decoder are you using and what type of video file are you playing (mpeg2/xvid/mpeg4).

Crashes can also be caused by bugs in the decoder, and decoders like ffmpeg can put debug information in the decoded video which may be where your red number is comming from...

I'm using everything set to default, no FFdshow. Nvidia pure video is my decoder. The video is a Radeon 9550 - maybe it's something in the "ATI Traytools" that's displaying the number?

I have never been able to get stable drivers for this video card - it crashes Sage once a day. Tried all kinds of hacked drivers, went back to catalyst 2000.0320.2241.38712

I've got a 9600XT in my system and I've had very bad luck with all releases newer than Catalyst 7.1. With 7.1 my system runs perfectly.

Have you checked the temperature of your video card? It could be that it's overheating. You might need an extra case fan or an aftermarket video card cooler. You could also try underclocking the card to see if the problems go away.

I cut a hole in the side of the case and have an 80mm fan blowing on the cards, so temperature shouldn't be a problem - but noise is annoying! I's in my office, so the noise of printers, other computers, etc drown it out.

I just downloaded Catalyst 7.1 and will try it this afternoon - thanks for the advice!

Are you using ati-tray tools, instead of the CC that comes with catlist drivers, that could be the problem (u have a debug notice of some kind there from the tools)

Yes, Ati Tray Tools allows me to set a hotkey to reload the video drivers - without which I can't "wake up" the DVI monitor after it goes into standby. To get video back after standby, I have to move the mouse and hit F12 (key assigned to reload drivers), then the monitor (Sceptre X20G - known to have problems waking up when using the DVI interface instead of VGA).

So, that's the only real reason I use Tray Tools - everything else is set to factory default.

I loaded Catalyst 7.1, the monitor won't wake after standby, even with Tray Tools hotkey set to reload drivers.

What I am saying is that the red dot, maybe coming from the tray tools.

Please try NOT to load them and see if you get the red dot.

If its not there ask the tray tools people about it.

I am saying this because,. for a time, I installed the tray tools, and got a number on the screen in games, this was because of tray tools, debugg, showing the number of frames.

Maybe its something of the sorts in your case too.

Delayed reply! It was ATI TrayTools, set to OSD - something about frame rate for games - turned off the option and red number is gone. Thanks all for responses!
