Maximum Number of Music Files
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone tried to use Sage as a Music Media Player? I recently upgraded to v6 with the hope to use it also for my music collection. Prior versions did not have a good interface for large number of records/songs (over 60,000 songs). I have been using v6 with great success informed it where my music resides but it stopped responding. I thought it might take a while (a day or two) to catalog all the music but after a week it still did not respond. My Wiz.bin grew to about 50 megs and then stopped responding. I rebooted the machine, deleted the wiz.bin file and moved my music files to a different directory and everything worked ok. I then added a small number of music files back to the cataloged directory (just those artists starting with "A"). SageTV continued to respond to my requests while it cataloged the music. It took a few hours for it to complete catalog just those files. I have added a number of more files and the wiz.bin file increased in size to about 50 megs and it stopped responding. Is there a maximum database size? I have disabled the option to discover new media just in case it is starting over again prior to completing the last sweep. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks for any and all help. Bernie Just some info on my setup: SageTV v6, WD 80gig boot drive, Seagate 400gig drives SATA, (2) WD 200gig drives ATA, 1 Gig memory, Intel P4 HyperThread 2.4 GHz. |

There isn't a limit of a max number of songs, as far as I know, but I can imagine that maybe 60,000 music files runs into some sort of performace issue. I would contact SageTV regarding your results so far.
Debug logging might be a good thing to turn on. - Andy

Thanks Andy that appears to have resolved my issue for now. How can I tell how much memory Java is using? It is still scanning the music library at the moment so I have my fingers crossed that it does not exceed 512. HC |

Perhaps check the JVM Heap Size on the System Information screen.
