New HDTV & picture problem

Hey guys,
I have a strange problem. I just got a 42" HDTV and I'm having a problem with the picture position.
After checking every other source (DVD's, imported video's, etc..), I know this is just happening in Sage.
The picture on every channel is about one inch inward from the left side of my screen. The right side is fine. I went through every setting I could find in Sage to straighten it out, but nothing is working.
I know I don't give alot of detail here, but if anyone has any ideas......
Thanks,
Dana

It's either the source or the tuner card that's doing it. When I was using analog cable my PVR-500 was recording with a small black bar on the left side of the video and the right side was flush. Now that I've switched to FIOS TV and am using S-Video input from an STB, I get a small vertical bar on both sides.

Thank you for the response. But so I can make an educated reply, what is FIOS?
Sorry for the stupidity

FIOS is Verizon's new fiber optic cable and internet service.

Just to add to my original post here maybe someone can tell me why this is.
I have currently and temporarily.
1 Digital STB and 1 HDSTB.
PVR500 - Connected to this I have one input from the Digital box (Composite) and one straight from the wall (coax)
The HDSTB is connected directly to the TV. (DVI-HDMI)

I haven't been able to figure out capturing through firewire and haven't decided on an HDHomerun yet. That's why my configuration is this way now.

Ok, onto the question. Naturally HD through the box straight to the TV is awesome. SD programming isn't really all that bad either. But when I play and record SD through SageTV, it is absolutely terrible. Not to mention the picture problem I'm having that I mentioned above where there is a black bar down the left side and I sometimes get the white line across the top of the screen.

I thought all this would improve after I bought a new video card. It's an eVGA e-GeForce 8600 GT 256MB PCI-e Card. It didn't.

What am I doing wrong? I haven't been watching TV on the HDSTB only recently.

Please ask me questions, I don't know what you need know exactly.

Thanks a ton in advance!!!

Yooper,
Thanks, yes I did do that and I'm able to get rid of the line on the side and the top, but I swear that makes the picture even worse. Could it be just me?

My experience is that one of your settings is not correct. I have been in your situation in the past. The problem is that there are hundreds of settings!

What is your recording quality set at? Pixilation will occur if the sage software has to change resolutions somewhere.

Your Akai has a strange native resolution. Can you set your resolution to 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080?

Yooper - I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. It could be any one of those settings

Paul beers -
My resolution, if you mean Windows, is set at 1024x768. If there is another place to change the resolution settings, I'd love to know about it.

Thanks!!

EDIT: In my NVidia Control Panel, there is a place to "Manage Custom Resolutions". I get the options of:
Horizontal desktop pixels (which is set to 1024)
Vertical Desktop pixels (is set to 768)
GDI Refresh Rate (is set to 60)
Bits per Pixel (Is set to 32)
An option to check Interlaced
Then I can open Advanced options
