Another PAL user that had to fix the Sound and B & W picture problem
I upgraded from 2.20 to the latest 2.1 RC4 today.
Problem Major problem Live TV and recording live when using Cable (ie composite video). 'Pink and Perky'* sound (ie a humorous effect) and black & white (and slightly fuzzy?) picture. The Play back of old recordings is fine. Fix Followed the fix described elsewhere: ie close SageTV stop SageTV service edit Sage.properties change from mmc/video_format_code=1 to mmc/video_format_code=8 Reboot the machine (restarting service and program without reboot did not work for me) Apart from that all seems well after 4 hours use. I'd had a weird problem with my remote which I had been unable to fix. Before the upgrade only the mute button worked, now every button works fine. I noticed that CPU usage is up from say 70-75% during playback to 85-95% is this normal? (I have not used PVR-350 TV out) ========================== *I'm not sure how many people here are old enough and cultured enough <g>to remember this UK children's entertainment of the 60's In detail what I did to install ie backed up the required files, shutdown down Sage and ran the setup. I picked all the defaults (except specifying the Hauppauge as my remote). Installed as a service and took the defaults (ie enable recovery unchecked)

OK,
the "mmc/video_format_code=8" setting works to get the picture to come back. I run a PVR250. BUT, After running 2.1 for a 3 days, I noticed that the sound that gets encoded (ONLY from the composite port NOT the tuner) is too loud to the point of overloading the input stage of the encoder resulting in lots of distortion in loud scenes... It is an encode problem since old recordings play fine. After searching around, I found 2 registry settings that can be set to alter the sound level but neither work. Reverted back to 2.0.20 in the meantime. Any PAL users out there with similar problems on their composite or Svideo input. |

After installing 2.1 I sorted out the "mmc/video_format_code=8" fix, which worked.
There is another problem on my system in that all the 5 terrestrial channels are not on their original channel numbers. 'Channel4' for example is showing when I turn to 'BBC2' and 'channel 5' is just fuzzy snow. |

I think my volume is also high, althought it did not spoil my "Spooks" episode, but I've not had time to test it properly.
I'm not using the tuner, I use a plug in from my RedEye remote which controls my NTL Pace box and this still works fine. I've note spotted any other gremlins yet but had given it limited use so far.

Hi,
I've tried all the above suggestions. (PVR 350 user with TV out) I have the latest beta RC5, and it asked me about PAL / NTSC , etc. Looking in the properties file, i have 8 set. Yet, big beastly black bar at the bottom, I've tried all the aspect ratio's, offset, etc. I can improve it so that my screen moves around, but I can't get a decent screen fill going. (e.g. vertical size = 576). As a point (maybe irrelevant) all the MMC stuff has vertical size = 480. If I change anything, (with Sage closed) it all resets to 480 after I rerun Sage. Any suggestions most appreciated. Cheers Mark |

I haven't tried this yet myself, but did you stop the SageTV Service, before changing settings in the sage.config? /Bisbjerg
