Home Security - Recored from Camera
So I have had sage setup for ~6 months and love it. Just wondering if it would be possible to hook up a security camera to it and record the feed? I was thinking of the camera has video out i could plug it into my pvr250 and record, but wondering if there was any good plugin specifically for this....
Thanks Matt

Which sage version are you using? I don't know of any plugins that do it but you can add the composite input as a source.
I'm using 5.04 and to view my security camera was a simple matter of just adding the PVR250 composite input in Setup> Setup video sources>add new source. Composite 1 then shows up in the program guide and you can manually record the signal. |

Another person who would pay good money if SageTV could record 'continuous loop' video to a fixed size file. Need time stamp, and a way to browse recordings. Also need to respond to COM port ASCII commands to enable/suspend recording. Also need to program the frame rate.
I don't suppose SageTV can do these things, can it? |

Just cam across this thread. I'm very interested in adding a security cam channel to Sage as a baby monitor. It seems like the options are basically analog camera to composite input on cable tuner or possibly IP camera, though it doesn't look like IP cam integration is there yet.
Menehune, what camera are you using? I'm not sure where to find analog security cameras, givent that it seems to be mostly IP cams now. Also, does your camera include audio (obviously it has the potential with composite output)? Thanks in advance, just had a baby and would really like to add this functionality to my setup. Would work out well as my server is in baby's room. Another ?, are there readily available wireless analog security cams, so I could place in another room and have receiver plugged into my PVR250? cheers, dave |

I'm a licensed professional in this field and I'll give you some input. Analog will be easier, just plug it into a free composite port. Steer clear of IR cams, IR will make it through your eyelids. I have been snow blinded by my big IR systems (you can't see if they are on, and you feel no pain/need to squint). Just get a quality 24 hour cam (~$200-250) or a quality black and white cam ($100-150). Try to avoid analog wireless, most of it doesn't work at all. If you can run a wire. |

Thanks for fast reply, CollinR.
I've very happy to do analog, as it sounds way easier at this point. Could you point me to a link to a decent general purpose analog security cam? cheers, dave |

i did it
I've successfully got UNE working with my Aviosys 9060 IP cam.
Now I have it set as a unique channel number in my lineup. I can switch to it manually, but does any one know how to make it viewable by a one-touch button approach, or better yet via command line event? I've sent some stuff via girder to sage, but if I'm watching a recorded file, as I normally do, it won't change to the UNE input for the front door. If I'm watching live tv, it works... via sending the channel numberals and then "select" by command line event. These command line events change functions based on the current Sage context.... so... I'd like to automate the camera's viewing via motion sensor, regardless of what sage is doing at the time. In the most simplest way possible. I have the motion sensor working to trigger the command line event in girder, I can manually view the camera in Sage, I just don't know what command line event to send to Sage to allow the display to jump immediately and automagically to the security cam feed. ...or maybe some way of assigning a Custom 1...5 function to view the cam from any context in Sage? Any ideas? Wirenut |

Figured it out...
Okay, I had to sendmessage the LiveTV command before the channel change commands. And everything works great.
Now when there's someone at the front door, the video pops right up on the display. BTW, Universal Network Encoder rocks! Sweet. Wirenut |

Can you kind of give a work through on how I can get my network IP camera working... I read the thread on UNE and it makes absolutely no sense to me. I'd appreciate it. |
